The feeding of the 5,000 in John 6 is so familiar we simply yawn contentedly and pass over its significance for us. We seem to "get" only Christ's provision for us.
He hadn't stopped teaching to serve lunch. He was still teaching. He asked them and HE ASKS US "What do you have?" and when we tell how little we have he assures us that it will be enough.
Is our strength almost gone? It will be enough. Do our enemies seem too numerous or too strong? What we have will be enough if we give it to Jesus. They may not have fully trusted that they would have enough to satisfy their hunger later but they trusted HIM. What he had been given, he blessed and broke (remember the earthen jars of Gideon) and multiplied so much that 5,000 men plus women and children were satisfied and the fragments left over filled 12 baskets.
We are shown that if we GIVE our lives to the Master they will be BLESSED and BROKEN and our power/influence will be MULTIPLIED far beyond our poor power to convince or persuade. We don't like that part about being BROKEN, at least I don't but look at what Jesus can do with your little life!
