Valerie Hello,

Not sure where to post this so apologies if this is the wrong catagory. I'm taking a trip to Uganda in June and wondering if anyone has reading recommendations of Ugandan writers or books. I love both fiction and non-fiction so any suggestions are welcome! Thanks!

Melanie | 151 comments Hi Valerie - Though it is lengthy, Abyssinian Chronicles: A Novel by Moses Isegawa depicts the dark history and political turmoil the country has gone through and the impact it had on the people.

Friederike Knabe (fknabe) | 148 comments Valerie, You may want to check out the Africa Bookclub (www.africabookclub.com) and follow the link to the authors by country. It lists a good list of Ugandan authors. Those with a link send you to a page with more information on them. I have not read any of those, unfortunately, but have some confidence in the site (I also contribute to it).

Valerie Great suggestions. Thanks Melanie and Friederike!

Best Indie Books (BIB) (best_indie_books) | 1 comments Hi Valarie. There is an award-winning book that we loved which is about Uganda. It's called 'Nightmare Along the River Nile' by Suzanna E. Nelson. The reviews can be found on Amazon. www.amazon.com/dp/B006A7S1C6

Marieke | 2459 comments lol valerie, yes, this folder is actually specifically for our Tour d'Afrique project. we have a "Books" folder where you can either post in the general recommendations thread or create a thread specific to your needs. You can find it here. i'll talk to Muphyn to see if we should move this thread or just leave it...these wonderful recommendations will be very useful when we do eventually get to Uganda on our Tour.

Adam (adam_yamey) | 14 comments I have just finished reading Drawn in Colour: African Contrasts. Written in 1960 by a black South African, this book, amongst other things, compares the lives of 'blacks' living under Apartheid with those living in a much freer Uganda just two years before Independence. My review is on: http://www.goodreads.com/review/show/...

Hi Valerie,

I've heard that Uganda is really beautiful. How long were you there for? What did you do? Was it holidays or work-related or ...?
