One of the best and most evil bad guys I've come across was from
Osmundus may not be the most REAL or 3D character I've read but he sure was evil!

Don't look at my TBR list... the first 50 are back-ups for review *snickers* I think I got a little out of my depth with offering reviews for indie authors... I wasn't expecting such a full on reaction! Slowly hacking away at the TBR list... slowly...
Jarlaxle from the Drizzt Do'Urden books by R.A. Salvatore. Although I don't really think he has ever really lost.
Mean sounding? Really? I always thought it was kind of cool.Jarlaxle is complex. He is dangerous with or without a weapon. He plays the role of a baddie, but if he wasn't then he wouldn't be alive for long given where he comes from. He has aided Artemis Entreri (an assassin who has it out for Drizzt) in antagonizing Drizzt. Yet he does things that seem contrary to his baddie image. He is always one step ahead.
Well mean and cool... I like it, but it does kinda sound baddie-ish to me.Hmmm he sounds intriguing! I haven't read the books so I have no idea about the world/characters.
Well, I don't want to add any more books to your reading list, but if you decide to check it out I recommend
It focuses on Jarlaxle and Artemis.
I really like villains who are three-dimensional, and who actually have a 'good' (pun intended) reason for being evil.I think one of the best examples is Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog, where he's evil because he wants to woo the girl with his wicked world domination skills and the 'hero' is some pompous asshat who only wants the girl for sex.

Wow, I agree with you:) But I do love villains who make the story more interesting...
Oh, and the "hero" in that book......does NOT deserve to be called a "hero".
I dislike mega baddies. All encompassing 'evil' really annoys me. So too characters that clearly fit into this category, but have no explanation of why they have ended up this way. Also if the baddy is too amazingly bad, the book(s) need to culminate in some enormous battle or apocalyptic event. Even Sauron didn't do it for me. But someone like Hannibal the Cannibal, well, that sort of human monster terrifies me (unless I had a decent weapon at my disposal, of course).
