Draykon and Lokant by Charlotte E. English
Eragon by Christopher Paolini
Briggs is a wonderful story teller, as is English. Paolini's series was ok.
Some books by Terry Brooks (The Measure of the Magic) also include dragons as essential to the plot.
Anne McCaffrey is one of my favorite authors. Her son has taken up and done quite well with her world.
I'm sure there are a lot more, but those are the only ones I can think of right now.
Terry Pratchett's swamp dragons are lovely. Small and combustible though :)

Really? I've missed a lot of Terry Brooks, I read the first three Shanarra boo..."
It might have actually been Bearers of the Black Staff, but one of the characters goes dragon riding - it's essential to the plot, but not a major part of the book.

I suppose mine do in Demoniac Dance, but only one is important enough to get named. It will be interesting to see if they become significant in Power of the..."
Well, they are among the protagonists of Books of the Immortals - Fire as they're the Fire people (obviously)... there's usually one wandering around all the five Books of the Immortals, who is also the protagonist of Starblazer (freebie on Smaswhords, see the appropriate folder). Whenever I'll make one of them more prominent, I'll let you know! ;-)
Not sure anyone has matched Anne McCaffrey's way with dragons. It was the bond, I think, between rider and dragon. She will be missed. :(

I read these a while ago, but I remember them being good. Interesting concepts :)

What drew me in was the cover. I'm a HUGE fan of Kerem Beyit's dragons. I noticed Anne McCaffrey and I share the same birth date: April 1. I made a dedication post to her on my blog: http://princesslilo.wordpress.com/201...
Back to the talk of dragon books...well...I'm pretty much out of words until I can remember another book...oh wait...

Kerem has also done a cover for Dragons of Ordinary Farm. I much prefer the German cover instead of the American one.
Those covers are exquisite Nipaporn!

They sure are! He is one of my top 3 favorite dragon artists (above VampirePrincess007, Sandara and Todd Lockwood).

*Sandara: http://www.sandara.deviantart.com
One of Sandara's dragons was used on the cover of this dragon book:

I kinda wish I got a chance to use her art for one of my chapbooks when I was still publishing 'em.

Adult:
-Guards Guards (funny parody of dragons/knights)
-Dragon Prince (a rip-off of Dune with dragons. kind of awful but worth reading for the sheer lols)
-You Slay Me (dragons are demonic-like beings that can shapeshift into actual dragons)
-Joust (I want to read this SO FREAKIN' bad)
-The Dragon and the George (inspired the popular 1980s cult classic flight of dragons)
Margaret Weis also has a dragon series that is supposed to be excellent. I just bought one of her books, so I will definitely soon see whether or not her style is worth purchasing more books. ;)
Children's/YA:
-My Father's Dragon (I grew up with this. It's SO CUTE)
Hope this helps!

Those dragon games are the BEST! And so is the music. It's best heard with headphones so you can get the full effect of the strings orchestra. They kinda have a Lord of the Rings touch to 'em.

Don't be sorry:) I'm with you...

And then there's the Firelight series, which I heard is being turned into a movie (it sounds like Twilight!), and there's this book:

And there's...um...I'm trying hard to remember but my brain is mush! I will come back later and post more dragon-
OH! Skyrim! The Elder Scrolls series features Dragons (most notably Akatosh and Alduin).
I recently purchased
The Last Dragon by Jane Yolen on clearance from SFBC. It's a graphic novel and I haven't read much of it yet, but what I did read of the story seems pretty good and the artwork is very nice also.

What's a hard sell?
Just double-check to see that what you're posting in this thread is about the dragons, not pushing people to go buy your book and you'll be fine. There's another area of the group set aside for self-promotion that you can use for that sort of thing.

What's a hard sell?"
Psst... L'Poni.
Tell us all about them. Just don't say that there in a book you wrote. They are... hypothetical space dragons from... somewhere. Yeah, that's it! ;)

They're actual dragons, just from space. They have been around since the birth of the universe (or 1,000 years after) and were born from a singly massive dragon they call the Father Dragon. They have built a vast empire and have a lot of planets in their ownership. They are obsessive with peace and love!
Their Earth lineage can be traced all the way back to Ancient Rome. A dragon shifter named Wyrl had sired two children with Scribonia, the wife of Julius Ceasar, and two more with the wife of Emperor Augustus.
In current time, their Earth empire/kingdom is known by the name of Antonin. The Antonin royal family (whose family name is Karrucci) is made up of dragon gods. Yes, gods. Now, you may think because the royal family is made up of dragon gods, the dragons on earth are safe from danger. Wrong! Every day a dragon is going through some kind of torture, and their father (named Father Dragon) can feel their pain and hear their cries.
After being captured and tortured to death (immortality is a blessing and a curse for him) he goes on a rampage that ends up changing the Earth. Forever. And ever.
Aside from that, they are technologically advanced and have made progressions in technology. When they came to Earth in Ancient Rome, they kept their tech secret for years until their rivals (a race of insectoid aliens) came to Earth with their dangerous technology. Lets just say, in 1532, a noble/aristocrat girl can wield a plasma rifle (just imagine a girl in one of those elegant dresses wielding a plasma rifle!).

No no no definitely not Steampunk. It's more hard Sci Fi mashed into a Fantasy setting. There are Digital billboards, devices that resemble smartphones and No steam trains, gears or clockwork in sight.

I can appreciate being enthusiastic about a world you've created. :)"
It's already out. I released it on my grandmother's birthday. I update it monthly with new stories. It's a new genre I'm trying to create for short story collections called "subscription book." I am working at the tenth update, which I hope I will finish today for Amazon and Smashwords. I'm a little iffy about posting a link...do I really have your okay to do that?

Whoops, forgot to come back and post the link! Here's its amazon link: http://www.amazon.com/The-Society-Run...
I update it monthly, so you'll receive emails from Amazon about it. There is an ePUB version, but I'm fixing that one. I'll post the link for that one later.
Thank you again for allowing me to post this.

Might be worth making a group shelf..."
That's a great idea.

The other one is The Dragon Within which was a book of the month in the Indie group. Interesting book but it does end on a cliff-hanger.
