What's the Name of That Book??? discussion

I am trying to find the name of the series that involved a family of squirrels/chipmunks. I think there was a mother, father, son, and possible sister (and maybe a baby too?). I think the books were from the point of view of the son. Also, the illustration was pretty crude, as in not perfectly drawn. In fact, not 100% sure the characters are even squirrels/chipmunks, but this is what they resembled (minus a bushy tail). Each book involved the same characters but different topics.

This is all I can remember!

Could it be the Arthur series? He's actually an aardvark, but especially in hte early volumes he's so crudely drawn you can't really tell.

Sounds more to me like the Little Critter books, by Mercer Mayer.

Or, there's an older series that I can't remember right now but can dig out information on, if you're thinking something nostalgic and pre-1960s.
