Hi class,

This is where we will start writing about Harriet Beecher Stowe's Uncle Tom's Cabin. The chosen person (Gustavo's choice) must write a short summary of the first chapter. The objective of this is to keep a record and it should be simple, short, but complete enough for people who didn't come to class on that day to just come read the summary and understand what's happening in the story. The rest of you must read carefully what he wrote and add anything if it's necessary.

Teacher Romina

Edit: the chosen person is Jose Maria! :)

José (josemtorres) | 15 comments This chapter begins with a sad description of how was Tom feeling after losing all the opportunities of being free.
Tom was sold to a man called Simon Legree. He takes Tom to his plantation, where he met other slaves -some of them, not kind-, including Emmeline (Who was purchased at the same time). Legree started to treat Tom with hate, and he takes the opportunity to annoy him when he realises that Tom is a "pious" man -because he had found Tom's bible- telling him "I'm your church now".
Legree told Tom several times that he has to obey him, and if he doesn't, he'll be punished or bite by the bull-dogs if he tries to escape.
Tom also realised how unhappy the other slaves were, when he got his "corn", he saw a woman very tired, and here you can see again how pious and gentleman he was when he decided to help her.
After doing this, Tom went to sleep. In his dream, he heard Eva telling him to don't lose the hope -because he'd already starting losing it- and to trust in God, if he trusts in him, he'll get what he want. His FREEDOM.
