5.3 -- Dust in the Wind
One of my favorite songs is Dust in the Wind by Kansas. According to Kerry Livegren, the song was inspired by a book of Native American poetry he was reading at the time. Read a book that features a Native American character, Native American culture, or Native American artifacts. These lists might help: Native American Fiction, Best Native American Romance, Native American Detectives, Native American Historical Fiction. As always, please remember that not every book on a Listopia list will work. You must use the task and challenge requirements as well as your judgment to determine if a book is appropriate for the task.

I wanted to see if Cry Wolf would work for this task. I can't really tell by the reviews. It was on the Best Native American Romance list.

I can't find any references to Native Americans in the description or the reviews. So, for now, I'm going to have to say no unless someone has read the book and can confirm that it has something to do with Native American culture. Sorry!

will the Untamed this is the fourth in the series an the main character is half native american. her grandmother- who is in the book- is native american.
the story is also based around native american myths and goddess.

Ok so i am a dork. I am on the next book in the series, but the same premise and characters. So I am thinking this one is ok too. Hunted

LOL... Couldn't resist moving on? Zoey appears to be Native American, is she not? Does the grandmother play a part in Hunted as well?

Charles Cornick's mother is American Indian so he is half American Indian in Cry Wolf. It is part of the plot. The second book Fair Game deals with his ancestry as well.

edit: Hunting Ground is the second book. Fair Game is the third.

From the description, it sounds like the Mohawk Nation features prominently in the story so, yes, it will work.

It sounds like Shadow Country is more about a sugar planter, E. J. Watson, than Native Americans (unless the Seminoles just aren't mentioned in the description of the book). So I don't think that one's going to work.

Either The Deerslayer or Little Big Man will definitely work.

The Seminoles play into the main story of Shadow Country as do the Blacks. They appear, disappear, and reappear so my sister said. She's halfway through it.

The other 2 I've been meaning to re-read for a long time - it's been years since I read them.

Sounds like any of the 3 will work then. I'll add Shadow Country to the approved list in post 2 in case you want to use that one. It's always nice to have choices ;-)...

Does this work? She is part Native American.

Restoring Hope by Ruth Ann Nordin is free on Amazon right now. It is Book 1 in her Native American Romance Series.

Wow! People really read that book, huh? They must! 12 of my friends have read it (that's a lot)! I know NOTHING about it except I used to see it a lot when I worked at a library. I used to joke that she must not have thought her tattoo placement out very well. One baby, and that sucker will NEVER been the same again! ;)

It does. In fact, since Mercy is the main character in that series, the entire series would work (in case someone's already started it).

Jacob is in all the books and is a major character, so any of them will work.

One review noted that Alan is Native American so, yes, it'll work. Just note which character is Native American when you post your completed task so Sandy doesn't have to go looking.

Yes, nonfiction about Native Americans will work. Because most people have been using fiction, however, just mention in your completed task post that this book was approved in the help thread.

Are Mayans considered native Americans? They come from north America, just in the Mexican part. If so, I would like to use Beautiful Sacrifice by Elizabeth Lowell. Otherwise I will use one of the Mercedes Thompson series by Patricia Briggs.

According to Wikipedia (source of all things true ;-)), the definition of Native American includes all pre-Columbian inhabitants of North and South America. So, yes, Mayans work. Please put a note that the book was accepted in the help thread when you post, though. That way Sandy doesn't have to look it up again.
