Did it live up to the hype?

The movie or the books? I haven't been able to see the movie yet, but I did really enjoy the series. But I have to say the first one is my favourite. I'm quoting my son when I say the following: "The first was awesome, the second was basically a repeat of the first but not as good, and the final one was just overly political and not that great".
the second book falls victim to Second Book Syndrome. It just feels like the middle of the story where nothing much builds. I thought it focused too much on what Katniss wore. I really loved the first and third books.
I have yet to read the second and third. I really enjoyed the first though, not sure I want to read the next two after all of the comments I have read.
First book is great, second OK, third book not so OK. It felt rushed or maybe I just wanted to rush through it.

I liked how it ended, but the chapters getting up to that point were just tedious and not interesting. It's like the choo choo train lost steam from an energetic start. I think I can I think I can *pssssshhhhh engine dies*
