Business cards featuring a catchy graphic background, novel's name & genre, and where to get it - while you're at it, buy the rights to use the graphic for other things (it's cheap). Try businesscards24.com or similar.Car magnets. Same source - you can also get banners, postcards, bookmarks, etc.
Video trailers (self-made are cheap).
I just bought some do-it-yourself T-shirt transfers and made a couple of pretty satisfactory T-shirts to wear around.
Do any of these work? I have no idea...
Thanks a lot for these posts. All things mentioned might work. What more... Printing on cups and plates?
I tried something free and fun, if you don't mind being part of the publicity....I went to pick my Mom up at the airport here in Lisbon, and we kept missing each other in the crowd, don't know how because it's not a huge airport!
So, the next time I had to do that, I brought a copy of my latest book to hold up like a placard as the arrivals kept coming out. You should have seen everyone craning thier necks to read the title! Mom certainly spotted me that time! Don't know if the passers-by remember it, but it's worth a shot. If you have to pick a family member or friend up at an airport, tell them to look for you standing like an idiot holding your latest magnum opus up, and you get free publicity into the bargain. Keep a couple of those business card and flyers handy that K.A. mentioned above in case someone wants to talk about your book and want to know where to get it! : )
I love it! Since my books are only in ebooks, I could just wear one of those T-shirts I made, but I guess I shouldn't hold it "up" to gain attention...
