Helene | 6 comments how did you feel about the remake i saw it and found it a little funny but for the most part it was not anything like the original

message 2: by Dan (new)

Dan | 3 comments What I loved about the movie, is that it was different from the series, yet the things that made DS special, were in the movie. I think the movie should of been released either week earlier from the release of the Avengers or much later. I think anything that goes up so close to the Avengers will not be a huge money maker. I think that DS is doing okay at the movies.

Wow Helen. I've been asked that a lot lately! I blogged about it here: http://www.kathrynleighscott.com/?p=2427 and talked about it in an interview here: http://www.kathrynleighscott.com/?p=2690

I think that says it all!

Tammy | 8 comments Hello, Kathryn I love Dark Shadows and all the cast. I also love Johnny Depp. I was so excited to finally get to see the movie. My husband even went and he has never even seen a show of Dark Shadows. He just went with me. He does like Johnny Depp. When the movie first started, I caught myself saying, that is not the way it was done. That is not how they acted. My husband told me, if you do not stop. He was going to move. lololololol I had to remind myself it is a Johnny Depp movie and see it as that. Over all the movie was good, comedy and I was excited to see Alice Cooper. He is from my time of music. I also was glad they had some of the original cast in it. The way the movie ended. I think there will be a part 2. What do you think? Have a good day.

I do not remember little David's real name. I went back to read again, I did not see on there about little david. I saw where someone else ask as well.

Tammy, David on the original show was David Hennessey. They did have another child actor play David Collins in the new movie, but from what I have read in Kathryn's books, David H. has retired from acting and has several successful restaurants! Anne

Stephanie | 171 comments Hi Kathryn,

First off, it's such an honor, and so much fun to be able to talk to you! It doesn't even seem real! Thank you for doing all of this for us!

Do you know why I'm so thrilled Tim Burton and Johnny Depp made a movie about the original Dark Shadows TV show? Because until a couple of years ago, when I first heard they were making the movie, I thought Dark Shadows was literally gone with the wind! A part of my past I could never get back. A part I only got a tiny glimpse of when I was young. I was too scared to watch it when it first came on. I only saw tiny bits of it from behind my Dad's rocking chair. I call myself a creepy crawler, vs. a creepy bopper! I was the only one in the family to watch it,and I was only 5 when it first came on. A small, timid little girl afraid of my own shadow, much less Dark Shadows! Now I'm loving watching the old episodes on tape.

I never even knew there were two original movies based on the show, or the fact that all the Dark Shadows TV episodes were on tape, that is until I caught wind of the Dark Shadows movie coming out. Then I started doing my research on all things Dark Shadows. I'm just really getting into Dark Shadows now, at long last. I've only seen about 100 episodes so far, a little from the beginning, and so far Collection 1 and 2.

I'm at the part where you're in the mental hospital with your little doll. I just finished the episode where Barnabas came in through Dr. Hoffman's window to kill her. She was wise to his ways though, and ended up surprising him by not being in bed, but in the chair by the fire waiting for him!

I've watched about 40 episodes in two-three days! I'm glad I don't have the whole set, or I'd do nothing else but watch them. I get them for now from the local library. I have another story about some strange coincidences surrounding that, but I won't go into it. I've already gone on too much. So, no questions yet, just a letter to let you know I'm on a Dark Shadows roll and don't intend to stop anytime soon! First to watch a few more TV episodes, then to see the new movie, next to watch the two older Darkk Shadows movies, then to read the books and all the rest!

I have read parts of Return To Collinwood when I was at Barnes & Noble, but don't want to read it all until I've seen more episodes and the movies. I'm looking forward to reading it though!

I hope to make it up to the reunion this year, another happening I knew nothing of until I heard about the movie. So I guess in summary, I'm just so thankful Dark Shadows was resurrected by Tim & Johnny. If it hadn't been, I would have missed out on one of my favorite TV shows ever, along with all the rest that goes along with it.

I love watching you and all the other characters. To me you're still a young woman. You look terrific now too though. You'll have to share some of your beauty secrets with us! Also, your secrets for where you get so much energy! I hope you'll take a nice, relaxing vacation after all this. You sure deserve it!

Okay, my next posts will be much shorter, and I'll try to come up with some really good questions.

Thanks so much for doing this for your fans! I think you're gorgeous, smart, and so sweet. I'll also be listening to the taped version of the radio show you were on last night, and will try to catch next week's show live, and maybe even call in if I get the nerve.

Sincerely,

Stephanie

Stephanie!! Welcome aboard!! So glad we have a "newbie" -- boy are you in for some great treats!! You MUST see House of Dark Shadows (the first movie) and then Night of Dark Shadows...they are both being released on DVD later this year (Night of Dark Shadows was brutally cut overnight at the studio's demands but Warner Bros. has the original director's cut and is going to restore the nearly 35 minutes they hacked out of it!) All the actors played so many different characters and they were all so talented!! My favs have always been Kathryn Leigh Scott and David Selby...doubt if you have gotten to David Selby yet...he came on a little later. So glad you "found" DS again after all these years!!! Anne

Stephanie | 171 comments Anne,

I'm not sure if I'm posting this right. Let me see what happens here! Thanks for the warm welcome! I am indeed thrilled to have rediscovered Dark Shadows after so many years! I can't believe it. It used to scare the daylights out of me and give me nightmares when I tried to watch it, so I saw very little of the show. Now there's so much catching up to do and so much to look forward to. Then having the chance to talk with and meet the actual stars from the show is just amazing. I really hope I can make it up to that DS festival this year so I can meet some of you all and the actors from the show.

Stephanie!! I am thrilled that you are now "addicted" to our beloved original Dark Shadows!! If you have any questions, ask Kathryn!! And check out her books on her website -- they are great!! The more episodes you watch, the deeper you get sucked in....it's just so hard to explain...I told Chris and Mike that Dark Shadows was like a childhood friend that was (and is) always there for me!!! Back in the '90s, David ran a restaurant on Manhattan's Eastside 80s that was wonderful. But he long ago left NY and is living in South America running restaurants. Frankly, I don't know where and can't provide a name.

Stephanie | 171 comments Hi Kathryn, I was wondering who you were you most excited to meet when you did the cameo for the new Dark Shadows movie, and who was most excited to meet you?! Was it Johnny Depp, Tim Burton, or someone else? Also, out of all the movies Tim Burton and Johnny Depp have made together, which one or ones do you like the best? Thanks!

Ed Wood?! Wow! I never would have guessed it! That's one I've missed, but want to see. That's where Johnny cross dresses I believe. I think that's the movie that made him say he was glad he wasn't a woman. Why? Because he doesn't like wearing a bra! He says they're too confining or something. I don't like them either Johnny! I'm all for the ahh bra! :] Next time he cross dresses for a movie, I'll have to suggest it! :)

A kind of funny story regarding that. The saleslady at the store where I was looking for them, told me it was called it the "Ah Ha" bra! I told her I didn't think that was the right name. She said, "Oh no, I know it is, because when you wear it, people say "Ah, ha"!

Wow, you just never know what these crazy fans are going to say next!

Kathryn, I meant to add, I bet Johnny Depp & Tim Burton would both agree you're still very pretty! Maybe you could write a book about your beauty secrets, and how you keep such a high energy level. I'd buy it. Lara Parker could contribute. She still looks great too. You used to be a Playboy Bunny, now you're the Energizer Bunny!

Thanks Anne! Yeah, actually I've been on the Dark Shadows movie trail for about 2-3 years now! I heard it was coming long ago. I was following Tim and Johnny closely because my teenage son and I both loved their movies. I don't know why I finally just started getting up to speed on the old Dark Shadows episodes I never got to see! I'm on a roll now though. Once I get my teeth into something, I don't let go easily. I'm with you guys! I'm a lover of all things Dark Shadows too. I thought I used to know what Dark Shadows was all about from the few episodes I saw long ago, but I was so wrong. I had fond, but hazy memories. Now though, I can really get into it and even watch 10 episodes in a row if I feel like it!

I'm so glad Kathryn's such a good sport, and available to us devoted fans. She sure does keep Dark Shadows alive, with a little help from the big boys in film.

Stephanie, my brother Dale and I watched the show every single day!! He walked me home from school so fast that in high school I was the long distance runner on the track team (well, that and the fact that my coach was always yelling at me to "TAKE A LAP!" I did misbehave a little...lol)He introduced me to all things horror; when I was only 4 years old he took me to see the Hammer Film Dracula with Christopher Lee and Peter Cushing!! Christopher Lee scared me to death!! I was so glad he had that short scene in the new movie!! Depp and Burton really went out of their way to pay respects to the "old" vampire movies (Nosferatu -- hence those long long nails Depp wore) and the Hammer Films Dracula...AND they paid great respect to our original show!! Anne, you're right, it sounds like Tim and Johnny took great care with this movie to honor one of their childhood favorites. It almost seems like we were all watching the show together. You, me, Johnny, Tim, Michelle, and all the rest of us!

Your brother sounds like he really showed you the ropes! He sounds like a good big brother to have. It's amazing your weren't scared to death, watching those horror movies when you were just 4!

Denise (dulcinea3) | 67 comments I think my favorite Johnny Depp movie is Crybaby. I did just see Ed Wood finally recently, and it was great (so sad about Bela Lugosi, though).

Kathryn, I did read a bit of your new book about meeting Alice Cooper, but can you elaborate on it? I loved the photo of you with your hand on his arm! I have loved him about as long as I have loved Dark Shadows! I've seen him perform live once, a few years ago. I think it's great that he apparently performed The Ballad of Dwight Frye in the movie (I am basing that assumption on his wearing a straightjacket and the line Carolyn apparently joined in on). After all, Dwight Frye was in the classic Dracula movie, with Bela Lugosi, as well as the classic Frankenstein. That is certainly an oldie for him - it appeared on the same album (Love it to Death) as I'm Eighteen, which was the first album of his that I bought. I know that his daughter appears in his concerts - was she there, too?

Stephanie, the first time he took me to a Hammer Films Dracula, Christopher Lee nearly did scare me to death!! But I had already seen Creature from the Black Lagoon and Frankenstein and I Walked with a Zombie and Phantom of the Opera and Cat People and of course, Dracula!!(You get the idea..) My brother Dale loved horror films so he would tell my mom that we were going to see some Disney movie or something and then after she dropped us off (I was about 5 by then), we would walk the two blocks over to the other theatre and watch the horror films and then meet Mom at the library when the movie was supposed to be over. You know, to this day, I have never "confessed" to her what we did! She is 87 but she is so feisty and still drives, plays bridge, goes to church, everything!! She would kill me for fibbing even after all these years - lol!! Anne

You and your brother were tricky kids all right! It sounds like you had so much fun though. You're lucky you had him around growing up. He really showed you a good time!

I need to catch up on all of those old horror movies you mentioned. I didn't like them much when I was little, but I really get into them now.

Can't wait to see the new Dark Shadows!
