Just saw it. Really good - it captured the spirit and the characters of the book really well. Plus nice when it's all so Norwegian. A crime that it's not more available in the US...
I haven't seen it advertised here yet but I've seen the trailer with Nickolj from Game of Thrones in it! I'm really looking forward to seeing it! Is it subtitled I forget? But that's what I remembered, it's been awhile since I saw the trailer.Im thrilled that it's out, maybe our little art theatre will have it?
Yes, it's with English subtitles. I think the best way to find out where it's playing is to google Headhunters, Nesbø and your city + state to see where it might run, and hope it runs somewhere close by. Hopefully your local place will have it too.
In Austin it runs in one theater downtown, and we were planning to see it yesterday, but before heading down I checked online and discovered yesterday was all sold out... so today it was better luck. I've been recommending that movie now to some of my friends who aren't into crime books but just like well made movies too.
All Harry Hole books that have been translated in English (going as bad in the addiction to do a Heathrow plane change on the way back from Europe, to be able to grab Phantom from Waterstone's book store...), and Headhunters a while back. :)
I read Headhunters a few weeks ago - loved it, a real page turner. Not seen the film yet - soon! I have read a couple of the Harry Hole books so far - the others are waiting on TBR shelf.
Watched it last night on Sky Premier, paying movie, and it's excellent. Didn't read the book but the film was great to watch. Plenty of action and great story, actually distracting me from 'surfing' :) Recommend it to all Nordic crime fiction lovers :)
Thanks for alerting us to it's US release. Just found that it will be playing here in St. Louis on Nov. 17th and 18th!
I read the book before the movie opened in the US in May. I was in NYC when it opened there and have been kicking myself for not making time to see it. I don't live in a major market and I can't find any info on when it might be in my area (NC).
I didn't like it....didn't think the dark humour worked. There's another Nesbo film of a book just opened at my fave cinema called Jackpot.......also promises dark humour so won't be bothering this time. Look forward though to the eventual conversion of the HH novels.
Ian, I can't imagine anyone playing Harry Hole a d nailing his character. Whereas with Roger Brown, I didn't care as much - the actor seemed to capture him quite well.I'm also sure we all missed a lot of small things in the movie, like the Danish accents. At least Icant tell if someone speaking Norwegian is Danish...
I watched Headhunters last night via a Netflix rental disc. I really enjoyed it... saw the dark humor and felt the acting was quite good. My only complaint, common with subtitled films, is that I had to concentrate on reading and probably missed some of the more subtle visuals. In places, I rewound to watch certain scenes, especially if they were exciting or wordy. That's always an advantage with DVD's at home. I enjoyed watching the supplemental "making of" documentary included on the disc. A caveat however... be sure you watch the film first as there are many spoilers in the doc.
Quite unique my husband was spellbound by this film! Excellent film in all respects and edge of seat viewing.....
IMHO way better than the book. Typically excellent screen adaption that Scandinavia seem to be better in than the rest.

Headhunters opened in the US a month ago, but we were distracted with preparations for Cannes and I let it slip past without posting. Thanks to Pierre de Plume for reminding me. Jo Nesbø is a name you should know, because Martin Scorsese is interested in adapting The Snowman, one of Nesbø’s Harry Hole detective thrillers.
Headhunters is showing on only 39 screens across the country right now, so if you’re lucky enough to have one of those theaters near you, might be well worth checking out.
Austin is lucky, one theater will be showing it downtown :)
I'll definitely go see the movie next weekend when it's out - I did read Headhunters a few months back. Enjoyable, but not quite as enjoyable as Harry Hole series (yet again I could not imagine anyone play Harry, where it'll be easier to imagine someone play Roger. Sort of like for Michael Connelly's characters, the guy who played Lincoln Lawyer captured it quite well, but I can't imagine anyone do Harry Bosch without ruining it).
