L There are so many exciting new sci-fi films being released this year, hence i thought that i would begin with 'Prometheus' which is being released soon!
Synopsis:
Ridley Scott, director of "Alien" and "Blade Runner," returns to the genre he helped define. With PROMETHEUS, he creates a groundbreaking mythology, in which a team of explorers discover a clue to the origins of mankind on Earth, leading them on a thrilling journey to the darkest corners of the universe. There, they must fight a terrifying battle to save the future of the human race...
Cast & Crew:
*Ridley Scott
*Micheal Fassbender
*Noomi Rapace
*Charlize Theron
*Sean Harris and Patrick Wilson!

It makes you wonder what is really out there & if we ever did come across other life species how would they react to us?!

message 3: by L (new)

L watch the movie trailer in the groups 'videos' section...!

message 4: by Julie (new)

Julie Rainey That one actually looks pretty good. Little scary, but good. I'm a total wimp at scary movies.

message 5: by L (new)

L I am not a huge fan of horror or very scary movies, as i like to be able to sleep peacefully at night! I think the 'scariest' film that i went to see was 'The Woman in Black'

It does look a really great sci-fi film & i am adding it to my to-see list!

message 6: by Julie (new)

Julie Rainey So many movies so little time...and money. :)

message 7: by L (new)

L True! but at the moment my list has 2 definates on it..being 1. Snow white & the huntsman - which i hope to go an see on my birthday with my friends next month (if it is still out then?) & of course the hobbit at Christmas :)x

message 8: by Zohal (new)

Zohal (bookworm122) | 62 comments Ooh, I agree The women in Black is a very creepy movie.

message 9: by Julie (new)

Julie Rainey My number one so far was the Avengers, which was well worth the price of a ticket. It was wonderful. :)

message 10: by Luna (new)

Luna (lunaraven) | 18 comments I hope Prometheus is good because I don't think i've seen a good sci-fi since 2009. There have been plenty of mediocre sci-fi films released in the past 3 years but nothing I would want to own. I thought the Star Trek reboot and District 9 were the last really good sci-fi to hit theatres. It's a shame really. There's no end to the possibilities regarding sci-fi and yet I keep seeing the same stories repeated over and over. Hopefully Prometheus will break the trend.

message 11: by L (new)

L Star Wars & Star Trek were of course very popular, hence there is a gap in the market i personally feel for a truly great sci-fi movie. However, i have a few more suggestions to add to this discussion!

Firstly, is the eagerly awaited soon to be released film of 'Men in Black 3'. This i know a lot of people are excited about, partly because there have already been two films done in the past that were quite popular.
The only thing that i am not too keen on are the apsolutely discustingly grotesque creatures!! but that is just me...

Who has seen the other films and what did you think of them?

message 12: by L (new)

L I love the twist of how they use time and go backwards to the past..very interesting! Plus also it has some quite reconisable actors and actresses in it which i think will certainly boost its publicity. x

message 13: by Luna (new)

Luna (lunaraven) | 18 comments Really? I love gross creatures in sci-fi. I personally don't think there are enough freaky looking aliens

message 14: by L (new)

L Well, i am the type of person who goes potty when it comes to any kind of insect full stop. so it is not too suprising that i am not into the grimy creatures that are in this film...uggh! :)x

message 15: by Julie (new)

Julie Rainey When the first one came out I think I watched it at least a million times or so, give or take a few. :) The second one was okay but not the greatest, I hope the third will make up for the second one.

message 16: by L (new)

L It does look good from what i have seen of the TV adverts and the movie trailer...!? x

message 17: by Julie (new)

Julie Rainey I'm curious why ever film out there now days has to make a sequel and then another and another...Some are good and should but others not so much.

message 18: by L (new)

L True. I don't know but a lot of films that have been really good they have then made sequels to...such as 101 Dalmations, Princess Diaries, Bridget Jones ectera. It is certainly disapointing when the sequel is not as good as the first film, and it lets it down. x

message 19: by Luna (new)

Luna (lunaraven) | 18 comments It's not that movies must have a sequel(though some stories demand follow-up, like Inkheart which was originally written to be a stand alone book), but that successful movies always guarantee a sequel will see decent profit. More often than not it's about the money. Even the first Pirates of the Caribbean movies was supposed to be the last. It's success is what led to the series we know now. Have you ever heard of the video game series called Final Fantasy? It was named though because the first game was meant to be the last(way back in the day when computer games had eight pixel graphics), and yet there are currently thirteen main titles in the series and over 20 spin off games.

When it comes to sequels money is the bottom line.

message 20: by Alysses (new)

Alysses (rumor_has_it) Ok Y'all.

I saw Snow White and Huntsman on opening day. Where can we discuss?

M

message 21: by Alysses (new)

Alysses (rumor_has_it) Prometheus, btw, looks HOT!

I also caught The Avengers this weekend.

M

message 22: by L (new)

L The Avengers looks AMAZING too!! There is a seperate discussion for 'Snow White & the Huntsman' x

message 23: by L (new)

L 'Killing Purity' is the Snow White & the Huntsman discussion section, so feel free to talk about the film and the magic that lies within a simple fairytale which has been turned upside down...

message 25: by Julie (new)

Julie Rainey I loved Independence Day when it first came out (and still do) Will Smith was actually good in it and made it funny it certain parts.

message 26: by Julie (new)

Julie Rainey Has anyone seen John Carter? I watched it last night and it was okay, but I'm a sucker for Sci-Fi. What do you think?

message 27: by L (new)

L I sadly have not seen John Carter as yet, but it does look interesting. I am pleased that you liked 'Independance Day' where Will Smith actually played a fantastic role (one of his best, i think). It is a film that i would watch again & again and not get tired of it! :)

message 28: by Terri (new)

Terri (terrilovescrows) | 33 comments I really do want to get to see the Avengers. I just watched Captain America on cable and though it was not my favorite by far, I did enjoy it.

message 29: by L (new)

L Captain America...another film to add to my 'to-watch' list! :) x

message 30: by Julie (new)

Julie Rainey Avengers was awesome! You know I didn't like Captain America the first time I watched it but when I went back again, it seemed better for some reason.

message 31: by Terri (new)

Terri (terrilovescrows) | 33 comments Thor was pretty good too

message 32: by Julie (new)

Julie Rainey *Swoon* Thor, my fave by far.

message 33: by L (new)

L Thor...i so want to see that, as i was hooked by the film trailer that looked so spectacular and dynamic. Julie this image is for you :)

Julie Rainey Hahaha! Thank you. :) Now I have something to stare at.

message 37: by L (new)

L :)
To all those who like outer space, i am curious as yo what you would choose...Star Trek or Star Wars??

message 38: by Julie (new)

Julie Rainey I liked the newest version of Star Trek but I have to stick with my original fave, Star Wars. I have all six movies and I love to watch them again and again.

message 39: by Lauren (new)

Lauren (lauren0924) | 34 comments I LOVE LOVE LOVE Thor! Such a great movie and he is just awesome! And The Avengers was another fantastic movie!

Ohhh I don't know which I would choose - Star Wars or Star Trek. THey are both so good. I grew up watching all the star trek television series but I do love the star wars movies!

message 40: by L (new)

L When i was younger my best friend used to argue with me all the time, as she is a die-hard Star Wars fan & i have always loved and grown up with Star Trek...those were contorversal but funny moments!
So i would have to say 'Star Trek'

message 41: by Julie (new)

Julie Rainey Believe it or not, I've never watched a single episode of Star Trek.

message 42: by L (new)

L Recently a new film has been done of Star Trek (that i watched again the other evening), which is so different from the origionals and yet really fantastic...i would highly recomend that you see it!

Maria (mariakelly) | 16 comments Lucinda wrote: ":)

Although I love Star Wars too I would have to say Star Trek. I actually got into it through the stories of the original episodes by James Blish which I got from my school library as a kid. The actual episodes were a disappointment when I eventually saw them because of course the wobbly sets and rubber monsters didn't compare with what I saw in my imagination. I then went on to watch all the films and loved them. Then The Next Generation, Deep Space 9 and Voyager. I love them all and I thought the new film was awesome. Especially Zachary Quinto as Spock who I've always had a guilty crush on!

message 46: by L (new)

L I loved the character of Spock (both the old series & in the new film)! I loved watching Star Trek as a child/ teenager and found it for whatever reason more captivating than Star Wars?? I still love to re-watch the old series at times, which still stand the test of time.

message 47: by Julie (new)

Julie Rainey Has anyone seen the movie Gattaca? I thought it was pretty good, aside from the way too long and many staring contests between the two main characters. Just kiss her already and get it over with...anyways, good movie. Makes you think.
