i mostly only access this site and group from the app on my phone. i have no way to add the gr book link when i mention a book in a comment. so, am i just not allowed to make any posts that directly mention a specific book or is there an exception to this rule?
Hi Christina. Unfortunately, the goodreads apps aren't much good for participating in any group forums, this one included. It's not a good app for a lot of things - following status updates included. I avoid it if at all possible.
There may be a workaround though - If anyone knows a way to post book title links from the apps (I think maybe you can use html code?) can you let us know?
It might also be easier to use the mobile site rather than the app, but I haven't tried it myself.
The GoodReads Feedback group has a thread for each of the apps, outlining which of the bugs have been fixed at any point in time, and what you can and can't do with them, so I'd have a look in there for detailed information on technical issues.
If it is at all possible though, people need to use the book links in posts for this group.
Cheers :)

I think the code for inserting book links should just be {book:Title of Book|#}, where the # is the goodreads book ID (what's shown in the book URL) but changing the curved brackets {} for square ones []. For example, our current group read would be {book:Slaughterhouse-Five|4981}: Slaughterhouse-Five. Again, square brackets -- I'm just using curved ones so the code shows. In a pinch, you can omit the book ID number and just input the title: {book:Slaughterhouse-Five} but in that case I think it will automatically link to the most popular/default edition, rather than choosing a specific one.
Hope that helps someone!
Hmmm. That seemed to go to a search rather than the specific book. Any ideas how you figure out the book ID number while in the mobile application?
I think if it's a common title, the link will just bring you to the search page because it doesn't know what book to choose. I don't know if the book ID is visible anywhere in the mobile app, sorry!
Yep, it works but without the number goes to a search even if there is only one entry for the title!!!
Here's how you determine the Book ID in the mobile app; Share the book. I choose SMS from the Share menu, copy the ID, then cancel the Share.
Julie Nichols (porchsitter55) | 1 commentshi, I'm new...just wanted to attempt to do a book link and see if it works. Thanks.
