R A T D J?
Hi guys! It's the first time I've played but it looks like a lot of fun. Can I ask what the specific duties of the captain are? I'm looking through the BINGO threads and not finding anything about it (yet; it could be right in front of me). I like Fated Fourteen, too. I was trying to think a play on numbers, but there isn't much you can do with 14, is there?
Anyway, excited for tomorrow!
Hi Jessica! The captain keeps track of the books each team member reads for the shelves and requests the stamp when all of the books for that shelf have been read, rated and reviewed. I don't mind being the team captain, if no one else wants to do it. I was going to ask if it was anyone's first time playing. This is my fifth time and it's so much fun!
Btw, I like Fated Fourteen for a team name too. :-)
We should be getting the announcement in a few hours!!!! The captain is just what Amanda described. Updating the list, which includes linking to our posts with the reviews.
This will be my second time playing. Had alot of fun last time! It also added a few more reads to an ever growing TBR list. :-)I'm for whoever wants to be captain. I like to pretend I'm organized but that only last a week or two. And so happy something good came out of my brainstorming... Just waiting on Thenia's vote.
"Unlucky +1" came to mind when I saw our team number or maybe the "Fantastic 14"(or 4teen or something similar), so just add those to the mix.As for captain, I did it last time and could do it again if you guys don't want to. Unlike Dawn, I'm annoyingly organized sometimes and don't even notice it until people tease me about it. :P
Anyway, I could be our captain if nobody else wants to and I added my two cents about the team name. Let me know what you think..
Thenia I vote for you then unless someone else wants it! I like both the Fated or the Fantastic 14. :)
Looks like the shelf was released- young adult paranormal!!! I'll be reading Jealousy by Lili St. Crow.
What was decided for team name?
Happy shelf-day, everyone! The virtual tracker of all shelves stamped & all bingo cards is up. I copied up the cards from each thread, and need other eyes to check that there are no mistakes. If the captain or an enthusiastic teammate could pop over to check the notice, then your card and let me know it's OK, I would really appreciate it! Many, many thanks!

Oh...and I vote for Thenia (wait...can't do that....) I'll just say she was a great captain last round! *Miss ya already! Have fun on your new team, Thenia!*
That all sounds great to me. And thanks for all the info about the captain which, by the way, sounds like a job with pretty spreadsheets (definitely something my geek side can fully appreciate). I'm good with Thenia being captain. Thanks to everyone who volunteered, you guys are awesome.Regina- Oh, I've heard a lot of great things about "Red Glove" so it'll be interesting to see what you think.
I'm going to read
UPDATED: Sorry if I stepped on any toes, but I confirmed that our Bingo card matched up to the one in the stats on the discussion thread.
Thank you for the votes ladies! I guess I'm it then? How about our name? "Fantastic 14", "Fated 14" or maybe "Double-Of-Seven" (spy style!)? Just vote on the one you like most and we're named!
For the record, the first couple of weeks I may get a little behind in my reading since it's finals period for this semester in uni, but I promise I'll catch up as soon as we're done.
@Judithe: Aww! Thank you for the kind words! I miss you, too - Nth power! 楽しかったです! Let's have fun competing this round! :)
I guess it's time I got to work organizing our team!
No toes stepped on -- I am not even sure how!? I love that cover for Die for Me it is beautiful. I really enjoyed #1 in the curse workers series, so I am looking forward to this one. :)
I keep wondering about Mythos Academy, I can't wait to see what you think!
I am finishing up two books right now, so I plan to start Red Glove likely on Friday.

I always think the covers look so pretty when they're all put together like that. Thanks for all the links and the information, it's wonderful to have it all organized like that instead of hunting through the main Bingo page threads. You rock!
My vote is for Double of Seven as a team name. Anything 007 and Daniel Craig is a win in my book.
Tangled Threads by Jennifer EstepShelf: Free Space
Date Read: 6/17
Rating: 4.5 stars
This series just gets better and better with each book adding another layer. It makes me want to pick up the next book immediately.
Gin is out to avenge her family's deaths while protecting those she loves, and figuring out how she feels about Owen. She's strong, smart, capable, deadly, and yet vulnerable in certain situations. She's quite the lead character. Owen, is such a good match for Gin. He accepts and loves her for who she is and the things she done.
The overall story is well paced, full of action, and has just the right amount of humor and emotion that pulls you in. My only dislike was there was a bit too much repetitiveness and recapping of details/things that happened previously.
Die for Me by Amy PlumShelf: Young Adult Paranormal
Date Read: 6/18
Rating: 3 stars
"Die for Me" is a young adult novel that, while entertaining, suffers from stereotypical elements that you are finding more and more in the genre, especially after the release of the Twilight series. Specifically, an ideal boyfriend (with one major flaw, i.e. he's a vampire or he's a zombie) that purchases and bestows expensively outrageous gifts, performs grand gestures, starts planning a lifetime together after dating for a week, and exhibits borderline stalker behavior that the heroine is strangely fine with. Though the story does have some amount of predictability in the timeline of events, it's still a fun read.
One additional note that I want to make is that I did enjoy Plum's take on zombies. I feel that, more and more, we're seeing a greater amount of creativity and liberty taken in the execution of a zombie storyline than we generally do in a vampire or shifter story. It's refreshing. Diana Rowland's White Trash Zombie series is one such series that takes the original zombie legend and tweaks it enough to make it different and new, while Rachel Caine's Revivalist series is another that offers a fresh take. While Plum's series does give us a different look at zombies, it doesn't push the reader to the same level of engagement and thought that Caine demands. This is very much a fun summer read book that, once you're done, you're done; it isn't one you go back to ponder on. Despite this, a fun, quick read that has you curious about the next book in the series.
Dawn- I'm totally with you on Jennifer Estep's tendency to repeat phrases/details and the paragraphs of recapping. It's gotten to the point that I end up skipping paragraphs, sometimes even pages in the books because I feel like it's a c/p of the same information in previous books. I'm curious to see what Amanda thinks about Estep's Touch of Frost, if she does the same in that series and it's just her style of writing or if it's something she makes unique to Gin and the Elemental Assassin series.
I skim over those parts most of the time... Like the house how many times is she going to recap the details of the house and it's a mish-mash and the hallways dead end or loop and the runes blah blah bah :) But I still love the series! I'd be interested in knowing as well. Always wonder about the author and editors when they do that. I like some recap but it does feel c/p.I like double-of-seven as well
Summoning the Night by Jenn BennettShelf: Free Space
Date Read: 6/19
Rating: 4 Stars
Each time I read Jenn Bennett, it's like a breath of fresh air. "Kindling the Moon," the first book of the series, brought a refreshing view of a romantic relationship in an urban fantasy novel. There was no complications of a love triangle or the unnecessary drama brought on by the two being unable to communicate with each other; instead, we were presented with an adult relationship that relies upon communication. I'm more than happy to say that Ms. Bennett continues to have Lon and Arcadia communicating and working together. There were easily two or three situations that, had I read them in some other books, would have easily been stretched to a 50+ page filler of miscommunication, jealousy, and not trusting your partner.
Jupe is still one of my favorite kids in UF (he was my first favorite, so I'm a little partial to him). It's also nice to see Ms. Bennett using him to full advantage, giving Jupe his own unique roles and missions in the novel. We have several opportunities to see how he shapes Arcadia's life just as much as Lon does.
There were quite a few threads weaved into the story as groundwork for the next book (Jupe's knack & Mr. Dare, to name a few) that has you already pondering what's going to happen. I just wish we didn't have to wait until 2013 for the next novel (even though it's a completely reasonable timeline). At least there's the potential of a Pirate Lon on a boat novella in December to tide me over.
It did have some weak points, I'll admit it, but overall, I enjoyed the book. There are a couple Jupe moments with Arcadia that are pretty endearing. Like I said, I think one of the things that will always stand out for me with this series is the communication between Lon and Arcadia. There were a couple moments (one involving a poor decision by Jupe) that, from previous experience, I know some other authors would exploit to create drama, but I love that Bennett doesn't find that necessary. Personally, I love those little family moments that make you grin more than I like unnecessary drama that could easily be avoided.
I updated the lists with the books you read Jessica and Dawn - good job!I'll probably start on mine tomorrow...
Great name! I have had a major injury in my family. I plan to start the book tomorrow but I am trying to juggle caring for my husband and my kids and work.
Double-of-Seven sounds good to me! I'll be finished with my book tonight but probably won't have time to review it until sometime tomorrow.Hope your injured family member heals quickly, Regina!
Updating your thread w/your name. :)Sorry to hear about the injury in the family, Regina. Keeping you in my thoughts.
