Thanks Elicia! I'm a big fan of
The Man Whose Mother Was A Pirate but I don't know that book. It looks fantastic.

This is a great review, Deb! Did you know that you can read this book if you have a sight vocabulary of only 50 words (The Cat in the Hat you need 100)? It's an ideal early reader, and the rhythm and rhyme elements make it ideal to read to Nursery and Reception classes to help them identify rhyme.

Thanks Sarah! It's a great book, one that children really respond to. If you like Roald Dahl, I recommend Andy Stanton's Mr Gum books- the word play is brilliant, and David Walliams's children's books, in particular Mr Stink or Gangster Granny.

Ha!...you got me. I chose it to read for a girl with autism in the EYFS for that reason as part of my Montessori diploma in Early Childhood. She has limited speech and this helped to extend her vocab. Dr. Seuss would be a great to read for anybody who is doing the PGCE Early Years.

Lovely review, Georgina, with some great ideas. It's a fantastic book; I've read it to many, many children who always love spotting the characters.

Hi Claire
You need to make sure that you are linking to the review, not the book- otherwise only people who are friends with you will see your review. http://www.goodreads.com/review/show/... goes straight to your review.

http://www.goodreads.com/review/show/... and http://www.goodreads.com/review/show/.... Jane Ray is an amazing artist. If you can, I recommend getting hold of a copy of Fairy Tales. Absolutely beautiful.

Here is my review of You're A Bad Man, Mr Gum! by Andy Stanton. It was so good I am seriously tempted to read the whole series!

Thanks for your review, Sarah. Mr Gum is a huge favourite of mine, too. http://www.goodreads.com/review/show/... is a link to your review, rather than to the book.

Jamila wrote: "Hello everyone! here is my review to one of my favourite books 'elmer the elephant'.
Thanks Jamila! It's a fantastic book for teaching the names of colours in the Early Years and KS1, especially to children in the early stages of learning English, and to explore the effects of colour and colour mixing.

My review of Malorie Blackman's Thief, a science fiction/ fantasy adventure novel for upper KS2. She's best known now for her young adult novels, like Noughts and Crosses and Boys Don't Cry (which are brilliant), but she has also written fantastic picture books, and chapter books for KS2. http://www.goodreads.com/review/show/...

Thanks Steve, that's a great review. Have you read Pullman's The Firework Maker's Daughter? That's a great book for younger children (Y2+)?

Here's a review of Coram Boy by Jamila Gavin, which is probably more suitable for the upper years of primary - but I enjoyed it so much I had to review it.

Thank you, Raj and Monserrat. I've used The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe as a guided reading book to explore the features of fantasy genre with Y5, and children really enjoyed it. Monserrat, Coram Boy certainly isn't for the faint hearted, but it is wonderful. A visit to the Foundling Museum has extra resonance after reading it. http://www.foundlingmuseum.org.uk/
A fantastic picture book for EYFS- Y1 children. I loved this! Never Say No To A Princess by Tracey Corderoy (check out her Hubble, Bubble, Granny Trouble too!) http://www.goodreads.com/review/show/...

This is my review of Kipper's Toybox by Mick Inkpen.

Thank you, Mary! That sounds like a great book to use to extend children's vocabulary in Early Years.

Welcome, Kawsor! Anansi is a great character. Traditional tales are a big feature of literacy teaching, and it is good to have stories from around the world, not just from Europe.

Thanks Alexander! That's a great book. Have you read There's a Boy in the Girls' Bathroom? A couple of trainees used it last year with Y6 to discuss issues to do with bullying and preparing children for the transition for secondary school.
