I really love atmospheric books with a lot of action (not just strictly horror). Horror/sci-fi, horror/fantasy, that sort of thing. Does anyone have any recommendations for contemporary books that blend horror and action (and don't have vampires or werewolves)? Thanks!

Personally, I still have a soft spot for Clive Barker, and love that he moved to film, video games and children's novels.

New to book reads. And my first (and possibly only) group. Been a horror reader and then collector for 40 years. Have an extensive collection of sign hardback books - around 1200. Some say that I have the most extensive collection of Koontz books - from all over the world. Have every Graham Masterton hardcover ever published (50+) and buy a lot of collector's editions. Other than only specific authors, I love to collect unusual bindings, boxes, slip cases - if they took the time to make something unique, I'm interested. There. More than you wanted to know.
