Betty | 3702 comments Deep River, a novel by Shusaku Endo is about four Japanese tourists in India at the time of Ghandi's assassination in 1948.

In Nagasaki, there is the Shusaku Endo Literary Museum.

Betty | 3702 comments Also written by Shusaku Endo, The Samurai takes place earlier, in the 1600s. That one is on my bookshelf for a while.
