Priscilla Vogelbacher (prissbns) | 5 comments I want to learn about the art industry and business. Are there any good books that describe how popular artists became famous or how artists get started and get into the business, get their name out, etc. It sounds like I'm looking for "how to" books, but not really, I just want to know how this world is. I'm also not looking for artists' biographies, art history books, art theory books, or any how to draw type books either. Does anybody have any recommendations?

Kara (littlerits) | 71 comments I know of a few great artist that have done very well in making there living and/ or putting their name out there. Whether that's what they wanted to do or not. One of them is Banksy. I don't know his full name. I don't know that anyone does, but this is what he goes by. He is a rather reclusive graffiti/guerilla(street) artist. He does art mainly on political/social events/topics and often they are quite funny, in my opinion. I believe he is based in London. One of my favorites of his is his bloody telephone booth. Banksy has become very popular just by showing his art where no one would think it to be shown and thinking outside the box. I hope this helps, and if you would like to see any more of his works or just him in general, the internet is a plentiful source:)

Priscilla Vogelbacher (prissbns) | 5 comments Yeah, I've seen his work before. Street art seems to be popular these days, but I don't like the ephemeral nature of it though. That's why I stick to more traditional methods. Thanks for the comment, though you didn't address my question...

Kara (littlerits) | 71 comments "The Alliance of Art and Industry" sounds like a good one to me. Are you looking for anything specific, like a type of art?

Priscilla Vogelbacher (prissbns) | 5 comments Traditional art. Who's the author on that one?

Kara (littlerits) | 71 comments The author is Denis P. Doordan. It's more on design, though I believe.

Kara (littlerits) | 71 comments Anyway I'm certain the usual and perhaps only way most traditional artists get business is through commissions. Are you looking for a book to start your career?"The Successful Artist's Career Guide" By MargaretPeot might be a good one.

Priscilla Vogelbacher (prissbns) | 5 comments Start is not the word. It's more like I'm clueless after a decade of looking... It must be the most elusive occupation there is.

Priscilla Vogelbacher (prissbns) | 5 comments That book doesn't look like it's what I'm looking for. Thanks anyways.
