I love this topic. While its hard for me to narrow down, I would have to pick Hadassah from "One Night with the King." She is a flawed heroine who must overcome many odds. She is taken from her family, must give up her Jewish heritage, win the heart of a king or live as a harem girl for the rest of her life, and then go in front of the king uninvited which usually means certain death. In the book she finds out the boy she was falling in love with and most likely would have married was taken and made a eunich. She must defend her people against her husband and his court. She must struggle for answers when she is seperated from her whole life and family. Hadassah/Ester must overcome her own spiritual struggles and have faith in a greater purpose in order to save thousands of her people.
This book is not about being Jewish, Christian, atheist, or anything. It is about faith, but its also about believing in yourself and trusting in something other than just your own devices.
The movie is CRAP! Don't watch it. Hadassah is no longer a flawed character but a woman who has no cracks in her faith, and its frustrating. But the Hadassah in this story is relatable and vulnerable and a strong female character in a world dominated by men. She would be my vote for one of my favorite characters.

Awesome! I recently was told about this book but wasn't sure if it was one for my collection or not - maybe because I had watched the movie first....!!! I know, I know shouldn't have done it and as an avid reader I just broke a sacred rule . But in my defence I had no idea there was a book.
Okay so I did it something i now very much regret! I watched the movie One Night With The King (again) it had been years since i first saw it and this topic tempted me again. I said to myself "was the movie really that bad back then?" ANSWER...IT IS!!!! I got only 20 mins into the film and had to turn it off!!! Why oh why did i submit myself to that much pain and suffering? Let's put it down to sheer stupidity, short term insanity or out of mind experience!!!
If you ever want to watch a movie with D grade acting - watch this one!!! Sheesh!
If ever there was a reason for Holiwood NOT to turn books into movies, this movie is it!
Now back on to the topic at hand "Amazing characters & why you love them."I would have to say mine is Ahhotep I, Queen and Queen Regent of Egypt of the 17th Dynasty.
You will find an interpretation of her life in the Queen of Freedom Trilogy by Christian Jacq - I think it might even be in this Group's reading list?
Why do I admire her? Well... after an army of barbarians swept through the Egypt, destroying everything in its path and reducing the land of the great pharaohs to slavery. Only one girl/woman resists - Ahotep. Fierce, beautiful and courageous, the daughter of the last pharaoh, she refuses to accept defeat.
After a hundred years of occupation and thousands of violent deaths including her own husband and two sons, she eventually and single handidly drives out the invaders and brings about golden ages of the Egyptian empire again.
Jacq retells perfectly the magic that is ancient egypt and brings into being the life of a girl/woman/Queen every reader can admire.
Well worth a read!
I just got the 2nd book of this series from amazong.com. After I finish the book I am on, I'm so into what happens next. Could not believe the ending of book 1!
Has anyone read any good books (fiction) with Julius Cesar in it? Keen to hear your opinions. Cheers!
The book I recently read called "Roma" is excellent. It goes through the history of Rome. While Ceasar is not a main character, he is a part of a family's story. Its a good book, but does not focus on any one person, just the development of Rome. Otherwise I have not added a specific Julius-focused story to my book shelf.

Now this is your chance to tell everyone about those people/characters you have met during your reading journey - cos we would love to know.
Be as detailed as you want but make sure you tell us the name of the character, book/series they are from, the time period and why you like them.
Happy reading.
