I'll keep that in mind :) I've been wanting to read it for a while after seeing it discussed on GR. I also want to read When Autumn Leaves for another challenge. Sure makes it easier when books can overlap...maybe I can subliminally coerce groups into reading the same book for at least one of the choices.
I THIRD The Shadow of the Wind. The Secret Scripture sounds very good. I've added it to my list! Thanks for posting it!

It has some, but not as many as I thought it would. It could have been shorter! But when I was losing interest, there would be a part about an animal that made me laugh or tugged at my heart. These people are definitely a different breed (ha ha)! They have lives, but the animals seem to take up at least 85% of their time. The title is not misleading - they really are enslaved to all their animals, and there are a lot more than just ducks. The thought of all the maintenance required sends me running in the opposite direction.

Where's my black powder musket? That reminds me - we have pirate night on the cruise. I need to think about a costume. Or not.
jaxnsmom wrote: "Thank you. And remember, a pirate likes to plunder, so guard your points, matey. ARRRRGH!!"Shiver me timbers! Mind me points, you scurvy bilge rat.☻
Where's Johnny Depp when I need him? Jack Sparrow would "mind me points" and pillage yours for me! Because, you know, I'm his wench!
Aye, Janice, ye must join me crew!If you look online for pirate images, the women all seem to be slutty or a dominatrix, so dress appropriately ☺
Will you be reading Island Flame (Pirates #1) ? Note the bare shoulders
Er I mean: Note the costume dress and her bare shoulders!

I love Sarah Vowell. This was good, but I really love listening to her even more (dang blue book requirement!).
Yes. She has a very unique voice, which you either love or hate. But you feel like you're with her, experiencing life with her. My favorites are The Partly Cloudy Patriot and Assassination Vacation - I would have loved to have made those trips with her!
jaxnsmom wrote: "That's good, but you have to really be interested in the history of Hawaii, or it gets a bit wordy."I have a connection to Hawaii. My sister & her family live there. My mother worked there for a year before she returned to Canada and married my dad. So maybe I wouldn't mind the wordiness.
I was debating about listening to it on audiobook.
