Anyone interested in reading Once Burned for the July book of the month? This book actually comes out June 26th but I figured it would give people plenty of time to read it. Plus it looks like many of you have it in your "to read" file. Let me know!

PepperP0t me! me! me!

Katya me too

Omg doesn't it come out on Tuesday? So excited!

Rachel (rachelwallace) Ok do I have to/should I read the series leading up to this book?

message 6: by [deleted user] (new)

I don't think you have to know the other characters, there may be some spolier parts about the other series within, but either way I would read both series!

Turned this thread into the opinions thread on once burned. Post your thoughts/opinions on the book. Good? Bad? Ugly?

Katya No Rachel but you should read the series it is pretty good. You might wonder who some of the characters are though but you can read this alone.

I couldn't wait until July 1st. I am about half way through and have read about half the Night Huntress series and the entire Night Huntress World series and am finding this enjoyable The author is brilliant and I love her characters....but I am not blown away. But I like what I am reading. The Heroine is kick-ass and funny. She has an interesting gift.

Yea, it;s a good series but its not something new.

So....I am not super impressed with this book. I was all excited to read about Vlad and I just can't get past the female lead. She annoys the crap out of me. Also I felt like it was like...."Okay, I want him he wants me, no obstacles, lets get it on." I guess I just felt like the passion was lacking for me in this story. I still have like 30 pages left but it's all way to easy for me. Also, for anyone who has finished the series, does the Night Prince series continue on with Vlad and Leila or no?

Katya I thought the book Once Burned was pretty good. But I agree that something was lacking. I know that J. Frost lovers hate to hear that. But it is a fair assessment on my part.

I liked the heroine...I think her situation molded her personality and I liked that she was independent and kinda kick-ass. And I thought that Vlad, an already interesting character in previous Frost books, was intriguing in this book....not too much of his heart and mind was revealed...just enough to keep you interested to return to the series.

But when you compare Leila & Vlad to Cat & Bones they fall short. Where is the humor and banter that goes on between the two? When you compare them to the other Night huntress books - Menchares & Spade's books...where is the heat and sexual urges?

It was an okay book but should have been a stand alone. I also don't appreciate how the author ended the book....it just ran out of steam and she said, okay until next time. And believe me, not in a good way. Karen Marie Moning, the queen of cliffhangers satisfied you, left you rested, relaxed and intensely curious for the rest of the story. This book just sort of fell of the table and when I went to bend to pick it up...it just wasn't there.

Maybe it is not the book that is lacking but that we have come to expect so much from the author....All-in-all, not a bad read.....I enjoyed it...but it could have been better.

Great review Katya! I feel the same way, just like something was lacking the entire time in the story for me.

Jai I hadn't read the other JF books, thinking this might be a good point to climb into her many series. But I mistakenly thought this was a stand-alone, and hate that there was no HEA.

message 14: by [deleted user] (new)

Yea, Jen. I wasnt really impressed with this book. Her other series "The Night Huntress series" is way better. You should check it out.

Jai I've heard that from others, Didi, and I read elsewhere that, given an option of one series alone on a desert island, many would choose the Cat and Bones books.

With that kind of reference, how could I not give them a chance?

Haha, yes its a very good series! Although If I had to choose a series alone on a desert Island, The fever series would be on the top I think!

Sarah | 22 comments After reading the other's here I have to agree with the masses. It is a good series, but nothing compared to the absolute addiction that is Cat and Bones. I see hints of things that made me love the Night Huntress series: the humor, the sensuality, the depth of character, but the Night Prince series falls way short in each when compared. However, it's still a fun read and Vlad is still one of my favorite fellas.

Nicole I bought the book without previewing it and hated the 1st person POV. So, I quit reading. I loved Night Huntress Series.

Nicole, you don't enjoy 1st person POV at all or is it in this particular book you didn't enjoy it?

Nicole Actually, I don't like 1st person POV at all. I can't seem to get into the book. This book is probably very good, but I can't get past the POV.

I like both third and first person, but it's interesting to hear someone who doesn't like first person POV. I constantly hear friends complaining to me when I recommend to them a third person POV book, they are always claiming the exact same reason as you! Interesting :)
