What's the Name of That Book??? discussion

I read this book in middle school I think and would really like to read it again. I can't remember much but I know it's set in the past. Some girl, in her teens I think, is now living alone, I don't remember why, and is going to support herself by baking bread to sell/trade. There is also a little mute girl that she befriends in it too. The only other thing I remember is the baker girl and the mute girl are going to deliver some bread during the winter and they crash their carriage somehow and get buried in snow. They are saved by another villager who spots deer eating bread spilled from the crash. I have been trying to find this book for FOREVER! I would really appreciate it if someone could help.

Cat--how long ago were you in Middle School? Was the book old or new then?

Around 10 years now, I think it was old? I'm sorry I wish I could remember more.
