I really enjoy apocalypic tales,Stephen King and Robert Mccammon wrote two of the best books in this genre (IMO).

The Stand by Stephen King The Stand

Swan Song by Robert McCammon Swan Song

Bryan Smith also wrote an interesting apocalyptic tale called "Darkened".

William,
Thanks for these reco's. "On The Beach" is a true classic and a must read for apocalyptic junkies.

"The Reapers Are Angels" sounds interesting, I added it to my to-read list. Thanks.

Jennifer (desdinova) Swan Song and the Stand are awesome reads. I am a fan of I am Legend. The original story and movie with Vincent Price.
I loved King's Cell and suggest to anyone Tim Curran's The Devil Next Door.

Holly (goldikova) The Stand was fun. I kept trying to imagining myself as a character in this book but I couldn't see myself going to either Boulder or Las Vegas. I was thinking, "Hey, you know the Biltmore is just sitting there in a beautiful landscape, excellent Zone 7 climate for gardening.......and on my way there I could search the bluegrass for surviving horses in order to re-establish the equine race, which is a bit more important than repopulating this world with humans."

To be honest The Handmaid's Tale was the most disturbing and affecting dystopian fiction I have read.

The Handmaid's Tale by Margaret Atwood The Handmaid's Tale

I finished up Fungoid Fungoid by William Meikle by William Meikle this weekend and found it to be a very worthy addition to the list. I think Meikle is also way underrated and more people should discover this Scottish talent that now resides in Nova Scotia.
