I gotta admit, I was a little concerned reading the description of this book. But once I got into the book, I forgot that Terry was technically "Terrier," that Pinsch and Shep were dog names and so forth.

I'd thought it might come off kinda gimmicky, but darned if it didn't fit perfectly. Especially with the burying of all their old bones in and under their house.

Tom Piccirilli (tompiccirilli) | 9 comments Dogs have always been rather iconic for me, and likening folks to them (loyal dog, mad dog, dog in the night howling at the moon) seemed pretty moody to me. A family whose names are all somehow connected also seemed like a powerful way to tighten their bond.

It's also something of a leftover that I remember from a movie I saw way back when I was a kid called LOLLY MADONNA XXX (kiss kiss kiss, in case you're wondering). All the family members in that were named after birds.

It got to the point where Terrier (which I prefer over Terry) actually seemed like a pretty good name. Ditto for the rest of them.
