ϟEvelynϟ (paralynperea) Haha Actually it's just in me. Maybe because I read a lot of Historical Fiction. I just DON'T like writing non fiction or history(like from textbooks and all). That seriously is boring for me to write about. I do like learning and talking about history, though.

message 16: by Razmatus (new)

Razmatus | 16 comments the kind that can express just about any emotion or situation with at least a certain artistic grace - like Erikson, Martin, Tolkien, or ancient dudes like Homer - if it was love, the writing showed it, be in it exalted ways, or imperfect ones (Erikson, whose romances never really end up too well :P), and if it was something bad, they still managed to write stuff in a way that made me enjoy reading those things... I mean, Illiad, as far as I remember, was gory as hell, and still it was captivating...

on the opposite side, I DONT like the kind of modern stuff that tries to sound too modern, where the language sounds like of the gangstas or lowlife kids talking in a town transport bus, or in some cheap pub...

no kidding. I'm a history buff. Well, I guess I like writing fantasy too. Though, im all for historical fiction.

Razmatus | 16 comments ϟEvelynϟ wrote: "Razmatus wrote: "the kind that can express just about any emotion or situation with at least a certain artistic grace - like Erikson, Martin, Tolkien, or ancient dudes like Homer - if it was love, ..."

it is not the modern life, it is one of modern styles of writing that thinks that using language of pubs, criminals and other creepy individuals making us happy every day we travel to work... even if a work is about modern life, I like when the author maintains a language that makes it readable... see Homer could write about gore and it was still art; a guy got speared through closed teeth then fell to dust and Homer described it in a way that made me enjoy reading it as much as it was disgusting to imagine...

even Erikson - he writes about so many horrors, guts, gore, even mundane eww things, and guess what, it is still one hell of a read because his writing style and language and all give it a certain literary grace

maybe my dislike towards the more modern stuff stems from the fact that I dont drink, smoke or weed, which might sound simple, but it connects with so many things - I dont attend crazy parties, dont do bullshit in the streets at night etc, dont think it is normal to get drunk like a swarm of fish, or smoke the hell out of your brain thinking it is ok, just a couple examples of things ppl consider normal and alright and I dont... and these things gave rise to many works of modern literature where you can in a way see this or that guy took something and it altered to smaller or bigger degree something in the spirit of his writing... might just be me, but nobody will impress me with works about drunkards or junkies, at least not those works where those are bordeline glorified to some degree or taken as normal, as a welcome escape from life

I can see your reasoning and I totally agree with you. I can DEFINITELY read a book that is modern and has modern style, but the author has to make it interesting and enjoyable. Then it's just like so typical, normal and boring.

See, when I want to read a book, I want it to be so captivating and different from my life because then you escape the world you live in. I want it to be so much more interesting than my life. Isn't that the whole point of reading?

That's the reason why I don't like modern writing is because it's so typical. You don't like the modern stuff because of those crazy ass things humans do these days and you don't do that stuff. I can see myself thinking like you too. I never really thought about my adulthood like that. I don't shoot towards parties, drinking and getting blazed even now that I am a teenager. Nope.

well, Erikson for example, he created a vast and complex world that is completely different from our own, yet the conflicts and all, the ideas behind many concepts, those are some very modern ones, modern conflicts and struggles... and he writes those so well; e.g. Midnight Tides in a very engaging way showed the greed of some of today's world, the notion of indebtedness, the inexorable want for progress regardless of what or who it will leave behind destroyed...

message 33: by JazzyCat (new)

JazzyCat (dayandnightgirl) Definitely realistic romance fiction. And the darker and edgier, the better. Suicide, eating disorders, self-harm, stuff like that.

message 34: by Sierra~Kelley, A TOAST TO OUR HEAD MOD:P (new)

Sierra~Kelley | 358 comments Mod
Have you written any?

message 35: by JazzyCat (new)

JazzyCat (dayandnightgirl) Yeah, the story I posted is about all three.

message 36: by Caroline (new)

Caroline (godwithus) cool!

Vyanni Krace ~Wisdom of the bitter sea.~ (vyannikrace) I like to write rather dark or sad/angsty stories and poetry usually. Like Ti Amo said-The darker the better.

message 38: by David (new)

David jones | 3 comments I like writing horror stories that are fairly dark. Most of my inspiration comes from Stephen King (who is my favorite writer).

message 39: by Ziyue (last edited Jul 18, 2012 12:45PM) (new)

Ziyue (ziyue13) I like to write fantasy/fiction stories with a little of romance in it. Usually I like to add in forbidden love. And also I like to write paranormal stories and sometimes horror. But, rarely do I write horror stories.

message 40: by Holly (new)

Holly | 9 comments I like writing suspense/thrillers. Haven't really tried writing anything else. I just started writing regularly so I haven't really gotten far with it. Still taking a creative writing class.....once I'm done with that I might try to expand my horizons.

message 41: by Caroline (new)

Caroline (godwithus) cool guys!

message 42: by Razmatus (new)

Razmatus | 16 comments as for me, I do, or did write a very dark kind of poetry with at least a flicker of hope towards or at the end - holding to the fact IMO that a spark shines the brighter the darker the darkness surrounding it is... although the poems I wrote or write "these days" (aka back a year or so) are even darker, often without a positive resolve, as I myself am struggling to see some light in the future to come, which is I guess natural of a broken and not yet healed heart, right :)))?

message 43: by [deleted user] (new)

I write poems, fanfictions, and fiction/fantasy :)

(Ambz) ~|*The Angelic Vampire*|~ (AmbzTheAngelicVampire) I like to write teen fiction :)

message 45: by Sophia (new)

Sophia I like to write fantasy and sprinkle in a little romance.
I'm afraid to write fanfiction. I read a few and now I am scarred for life. It was the third one that scarred me.

message 46: by JazzyCat (new)

JazzyCat (dayandnightgirl) Caroline [Hunger Games Obsessive] wrote: "cool!"

Thanks! :) I posted it here: http://www.wattpad.com/story/1520760-... In reality, I'm almost finished with it, but it's saved on my flash drive in a program I can't get to right now. so this is all I got.

message 47: by Naomi (last edited Aug 02, 2012 11:07AM) (new)

Naomi | 2 comments I love writing dytopian/science fiction with (a little) romance. I never let the romance dominate the plot, something that annoys me a lot; when the plot and romance aren't balanced well. I would love to try mystery/thriller but i think i would need more practice before i do any of that. I also like to incorporate strong human emotions in my writing. Things like human flaws, deception, greed, andd other stuff.

message 48: by Sazza (new)
