Hi I'm Nicole. I'm 16 years old. A 1st year college student taking up Psychology. I have a Philosophy class that's why when I saw this group i was estatic. lol.So far, the most intriguing philosophy is Plato's Allegory of the Cave.
Hi Nicole I'm going to consider that as the first suggestion for a topic. Welcome to the group. If you have any ideas for a group pic that would be great. There are other philosophy groups on Goodreads that are more developed but also less collaborative, (at least that is what I'm aiming for).
Hi. I'm Chazz. I majored in journalism (back when journalism was better) and minored in philosophy. Philosophy hasn't changed too much, except contemporary philosophers don't tend to express themselves in simple declarative sentences. I write books for a living. Looking forward to lurking and throwing in here and there if I have something cogent to say. Thanks for the invite. http://www.AllThatChazz.com
I'm Jake,I'm a creative writer and author of the Heretic Series, a fantasy series about a well-meaning priestess who falls from the expectations set by her church. As my professional endeavors may project, I love philosophy, so I am very pleased to have been invited to this group. Who knows, some of our conversations may eventually find their way into upcoming novels. ;)
Mark wrote: "Just tell us a little about yourself."I am a artist/ author. i have written 2 books: BODYSLICK and urban sci-fi thriller and Being and Homelessness.Existential essays based on my 6 months as a homeless artist in Chicago. I think my book would make great philosophical dialog.
Thanks so much for inviting me, Mark!
I am an author of philosophical literature in the guise of speculative fiction. I have several published works, my most notable being:
MYTHS OF GODS: an examination of philosophy of religion, political corruption, and Einstein's "God".
WORLD-MART: a political commentary that deals heavily with ethics and social hierarchy.
FINDING POE: a meta-Gothic romance.
I am married to a philosopher whose main area of interest is ethics.

Hi all! I feel so humbled by how qualified our newest members are. This is a new group and I'm quite the amateur. You will all get your moderatorship soon enough.
Hi, I found interest in this group because I love to learn. I enjoy reading and define myself as philosophical in my day to day ideas. I am hoping this group can become a great outlet for discussion.
Feel free to pop into any of the discussion topics and make any suggestions for others in the thread i'm about to make now.
The Myth of Sisyphus is one of my all time favourite books. I'm surprised I forgot to put that into our group bookshelf. You'd probably want to pop into the Existentialism thread. I recommend The Outsider/The Stranger by Camus as well. Welcome, MAC!!
I picked it on purpose because I figured you'd have the everyman edition as I do. I think they have a longstanding thing for that kind of author and I think we all implicitly know that.
Maybe an under-educated, uncuth redneck can join a discussion amongst polished minds. We'll see.Hi, I'm Hugh. Retired Navy Cheif Petty Officer (21 1/2 years of service) and now I work as a substance abuse rehabilitation counselor. I've written no books, but, like anyone you ask who reads books, I surely would like to.
I noticed "The Myth of Sisyphus"... I found Cicero's "The Good Life", though monotinously redundant, raised the question at the heart of a leading a happy life. I just have no idea what he was trying to say.
I'm hesitant to join such a group of accomplished people (16 and a first year college student? Hell, I'm on like the 30 year college plan.) I hope I actually have something useful to say here.
Married, two children (son-5, daughter 7), a dog (male 4) and a three legged cat (Female - 17...yes that's people years). Thanks for makin' the group, Mark. I'll do my best not to sound too much like the villiage idiot (if that's possible for me).
Hi, I just found this group. I'm trying to begin blogging about the things that interest me, rather than writing-related topics so I can attract more readers to my blog. Origins of religion, sexuality (or absence thereof) in religion, the old gods, and the Gaia hypothesis are a few of the topics I like. I'm looking forward to seeing what the discussions here yield and hopefully they'll give me ideas for things to blog about!
I am left wondering why Leigh has not popped into the Philosophy of Religion Thread...Once again Welcome Madison!!!
Hey I'm Jonathan. I have an interest in all kinds of literary theories and of course philosophical discussions in books/films. Got an invite from a friend and thought I'd join in.
Hello everyone, I'm Benny. I have my masters degree in educational leadership, I have written a poetry book "Times Have Changed and Life is Strange" and I am currently editing a novel entitled "Monster" that I hope to have published by next year. I look forward to having deep discussions with everyone.
Hello all. I am mainly interested in Jewish Ethics, but I love all ideas and discussing them in general. I am fairly new to formal philosophy so I am mainly reading general texts to help me catch up on the history of ideas on a broad scope.
Hi Chris and Benny!! Chris thanks for joining even though you have your own group, The Laid-back philosophy Club, which I highly recommend to our members.
There are a few members with unconfirmed e-mails and others who I have yet to get around to but otherwise yes. I'm thinking of changing that since nobody apart from one or two members have even tried to actively use their moderator privileges at all.
I was thinking more interactive than active. That is to say I wanted them to get involved in topic creation and/or mild editing with myself removing anything completely ridiculous, you know?
Hia, my name is Natalie and I am interested in ALL that brings my forward! Thanks for inviting me to this remarkable group ;-)
I am currently a self-employed physics and mathematics tutor, but I am seeking better employ. I have a master’s degree in physics and a bachelor’s degree in mathematics. My concentration was in theoretical plasma physics, including research regarding Hall thrusters and an emphasis on inertial confinement fusion. My current interests include the ethics of goods distribution, heterodox economics, the psychology of work motivation, and electoral theory and voting systems.
Hi everyone! My name is Kim. I'm a teacher, bibliophile, oenophile, devoted military spouse, and loving mother to my two boys, Josh and Jacob. Can't wait to hear what everyone has to say about the subject. Happy to meet all of you.
Hello you delicious people, I'm Thomas from Ireland. I love the writings of Anne Rice, Oscare Wilde and everything inbetween!
Hi Thomas. I am also a fan of Oscar but I find myself slightly put off when it comes to Anne Rice. Also your fellow Irishman welcomes you to the group.
Hello everyone. My name is Alex and I am a Senior in high school. I have always enjoyed works of literature that push their way into the realm of philosophy and just regular philosphy as well. My favorites include Dostoyevski, Camus, Nietzsche, Thoreau, and Sartre.
Hi, I enjoy reading all types of books romance, self discovery, sci-fi, biographies and more. Enjoyed article All Writers - Get Published! http://justthinkingjustsaying.blogspo...
I'm Stephen Rose new to Goodreads but enthused about philosophy as I have always thought and that is what philosophy is. Everyone is a philosopher save a few who may never have a conscious moment. When we are conscious we choose among values and we act. Our actions are the sum of our philosophy. At least that is my thesis in my book Triadic Philosophy. So if there was a topic to which I might contribute it might be called Thinking in Threes. I believe that is what we do when we are fully conscious.
I would be willing to create a discussion topic such as these for people with suggestions whether with or without a book connection. Welcome Stephen.

Thanks Mark! I need to feel my way for a while. I am very committed to the triadic mode of thinking and to Charles Sanders Peirce who with Nietzsche and Roberto Assagioli are sources of my thinking. I would naturally be happy to explain my notion of thinking in threes. I think it is a key to massive social, even global, change in a world that has operated mainly on binary and nominalist understandings in the past. Also, if there is someone here who is interested in creating a Peirce discussion, that would be a major contribution. I do not feel capable of doing that.

I've made you a mod and created a topic folder 'Member's Topics' you can do your explanation of triadic thinking under a heading of your choice there if you so wish.
Hi, I am John a retired college prof. in the social sciences with a deep love and interest in philosophy esp. metaphysics and topics related to human existence or the understanding thereof as revealed by Phil., Sc., Rel., Lit. Etc.
I too would like to start a reading/ discussion grp loosely centered around a basic Q raised by Kant-"What is Man" A text is necessary to keep the discussion from having wings and moving all over the place, plus allowing for an intelligent progression of the topic- one that all can stay abreast of this development. A participant would have to have a serious interest in the topic and willing do some hard thinking about it! Some basic premises are: human curiosity, will to power, egocentrism, altruism, self development/survival, sacrificial/ martyrdom, etc. The basic Q is do humans possess a nature unique to them or not, that shapes all their actions- i.e. set in concrete. Some time frame to do the readings would be necessary, although all would be encouraged to interact as they read. I am open to suggestions on this proposal.
