I read this last year, and thought is was OK. It was the first Toni Morrison I had read, and I haven't tried another since.

This is the first Toni Morrison that I have read. Overall, I liked it! I liked the fact that learning to fly was a twofold idea. Not only did Milkman learn that his great, great grandfather was allegedly able to fly, but he also learned that who he is cannot be dictated by anyone but himself which gave him a freedom to soar. I think many lesser authors would have chosen one element to focus the story around rather than incorporating both strains and seeing them through to completion.
