Jeremy Loo (BohemianInkslinger) | 34 comments Just to get the ball rolling, I prefer a public school, I am in a public school, and I would like to have a short experience in a private school, simply to feel what it's like.

Akanksha Singh (akankshasingh92) | 5 comments I'm in college so that's outta question:D But yeah I was in a private school...uniforms and all..it was cool...we used to have a lot of fun and nobody had to stress about what to wear or anything. The rules in Private schools are pretty strict but I enjoyed it.

ali ᵏᵉᵉᵖ ʸᵒᵘʳ ᵐᵒᵘᵗʰ ˢʰᵘᵗ (time_wont_fly) I have only been to Private school, but I am going to Public school this year. I have no clue which one I will like better..

Sarah I've been educated in a private school since I was nine, before that I went to a state school which has now been turned Into an academy or something. But anyway, it depends what school you go to. Standard of public schools vary, and standard of private schools vary.

Brie (faerie_brie) I did both(divorced parents=lots of moving) The first private was also religious so that's a whole other world in itself!
I did think after starting in public, I was a few lessons behind at the private. Then the second public was in an affluent area with an award winning district so the courses were very advanced. I won't even give an opinion on the second private :/ So I think there are lots of factors plus personal opinion to consider.

message 9: by Ophelia ॐ (new)

Ophelia ॐ I've gone to private school my whole life, so I have no idea what public school is like except from what I hear from other people. I think it would be a good experience though to go to a public school. Sometimes private schools are so snobby and gosh I can't really do anything about it.

I definitely prefer private. I was homeschooled and that's considered a private school. My friends (see I had friends. I promise I'm not unsocialized.) used to tell me stuff about their school (drugs, sex, violence) and I would always say "Thank God I'm homeschooled. Even my boyfriend thinks he would've done better homeschooled. Also, just throwing this out here: in fifth grade I took a public school aptitude test and placed in ninth grade math.

Katie (katiebakes641) | 75 comments For primary school, I would say that public is better. A lot of private schools don't require their teachers to be certified. It depends on where you are. If you live in the inner city, a private school would be preferable.

I would definitely say public school for college. Private schools are ridiculously expensive and not worth it unless you're in the ivy league. You can get a quality education at a public university that is comparable to a private one.

As for the violence thing - my high school had none of that. I did live in a reasonably affluent suburb, though, so that made a difference.

Pirl (pirlismyname) I dunno if it really is a public school, cuz you need to get in, but when it comes to money and the actual subjects and stuff I'm pretty sure I go to a public school. I wouldn't really want to go to a private school. Mostly, here in Israel, they're either for the super religious, the super talented, or the super smart, and even I am religious, talented and smart, I'm not super at any of them. Plus that would just be boring, always being with the same type of people as myself.
It does cost a lot of money, also.
I don't know what you all mean about the sex and drugs and stuff, or low standards in the actual studying. Maybe it's just different in the US, there isn't really sex and drugs at ALL in our high school, or in any of the high schools I've visited, and even if there are schools that have been rumored to have all the stupid, more violent people in them, my friend transferred to our school from the one who gets the most, and she said it isn't that bad at all.
Violence is punished severely in our school, and it doesn't seem as bad here, at least where I live and where I go to school(two different places: I live in the suburbs of city 1 and go to school in city 2). There's tons of bullying, but even the physical kind doesn't get to what I hear on TV and read and stuff about the US.

It isn't like I've never been to a private school or something. Before I got accepted to the school I'm in, actually before we even heard of it, I applied for a rather religious private girls' school. I am SOOOO glad I wasn't accepted (not only was I not accepted, but I didn't get the rejection letter till midsummer, which would have been devastating had what happened not happened) because right after Passover (that's spring time) we found out about the amazing school I'm in right now, and I got accepted the very day after going for the interview.

Katie (katiebakes641) | 75 comments America has a proclivity for domination and violence. There's a lot of unseemly history behind it that I won't get into. I think it is a little overblown when it comes to public schools but there are problems. There's a lot of problems with the American educational system, period.

What you said about being talented/smart holds true in America. It is worth it to go to a very good private school if you're up to it. Otherwise, public school is perfectly fine.

message 14: by Pirl (new)

Pirl (pirlismyname) I'd be up to it... I just don't particularly want to, you know? Like I said, I think it'd be boring, meeting only people who're like me.

message 15: by Katie (new)

Katie (katiebakes641) | 75 comments Same here. People told me I should go to a private school but I didn't want to.

message 16: by Sarah (new)

Sarah You can't just say, "Public schools produce bad students and have bad classes and the students become druggies and there is violence and sex etc," Becuase all public schools are no like that. Example: one of my friends goes to an extremely good public school with good classes and teachers. Then my other friend goes to a school which has a good reputation, and is known to be even religious, however the students actually get up to all sorts - one girl was raped, the guys do drugs, etc. And finally, three-quarters of the population of the people I knew from primary school went to the secondary school down the road from me, which has a terrible reputation and the a lot of the kids get up to terrible things.
Then again, I go to a private school, my parents pay for it, the education is exceptional, however about half the school get into trouble, one girl I knew was pregnant at fourteen, another one had to leave because she had a criminal record.
Then again, my friend went to a private musical school and that has exceptionally high class.

It all depends WHICH ACTUAL SCHOOL. Not which TYPE.

message 18: by Pirl (new)

Pirl (pirlismyname) Which is what I've been saying all along. Thank you Sarah:D

message 19: by Pirl (new)

Pirl (pirlismyname) I think that being only with people who are like you in some way or another is a bad thing. I would count that as a pro for public school. I know that was one of your question, but I think that no matter what, being in an all-white, all-Jewish school is bad for you and good for, but more bad for you than good.

message 20: by Pirl (new)

Pirl (pirlismyname) Not to mention you don't go to school solely for education. I think THAT should be an obvious one.

Shelly Ann (shellyannhas77) | 12 comments Public school all the way! My favorite was the High School that I attended in Lakewood, Colorado. I loved that school. My parents always made sure we went to a good public schools. Colorado, has really good ones.

I personally like private schools but that's probably just because I'm used to them since I've been going to one since Pre-K. I've gone to 3 different private schools and honestly they were all completely different, even though a lot of people say that private schools are all the same. The 2nd private school I went to in 5th and 6th grade was not your typical private school at all. There were hardly any rules or strucutre, and you can wear whatever you want. Now I'm going to a more strict private school but I guess it's getting me ready for high school and college ^^

Wow, that's all pretty hard to believe because the private school I've been going to all my life is veeeeery focused on sports. I'm going to the high school now, and all the sports teams are insane. Not to mention, we value education a lot too. So, I find it hard to believe when you say that in private schools education takes over everything- because that's definitely not the case at my school (where I might add, the tuition is over $20,000 a year, so that's saying something.) Also, our football team just won state championship this friday for the third year in a row...so we value sports and in fact we are an extremely spirited school (we have pep rallies, the whole school, on days of football games) and education doesn't take over everything, though it is a huge part. Again, we have a wide variety of races and religions, too, not that wide- but more than your average private school. It's a truly amazing school where culture sports and learning is all super important. So...keep that in mind that it might be your school that is just like that. Because mine is totally different.
