I hate this book! Even though Strider is my fave Lord, it is the worst in the series. I'll only put down a list. If you want to read my rant, check out the review I wrote. con:
- not a fan of the Harpies (except Gwen)
- Kaia is annoying and NOT funny
- explanations for the sudden 'attraction' didn't convice me
- didn't feel Kaia and Strider together
- expected Strider to be funnier and naughtier (he was not himself)
- Strider got shafted
pro:
- Strider in the scenes without Kaia
- Kane had more page time
- violent William is scary
- Paris and his fight to safe Sienna
- I hope we get to see Lazarus again
I liked it, but I read Paris's book first and then went back and read the rest in order. So I knew who everyone would end up with, and that takes some of the sting out of a character not getting that perfect female, because you're already resigned to it. Now I'll be much more irate if say, TORIN, gets the wrong girl. I might have to hunt Gena down. So I feel your pain for your Strider.
The harpy games were interesting to me, especially Lazarus. I loved him and was not happy that he died. I hope his name proves true.
I like the harpies in general, like that they drink blood (makes for some hot scenes) and have to steal their food or work for it. They're unique.
Strider's a great character but for some reason him and Sabin kind of blend together for me. Or I should say, Sabin doesn't stand out to me and I kind of link him to Strider. Isn't Strider the only blonde too, not counting Torin's white hair? I love a hot blonde.
The bar scene was funny, although Haidee did NOT deserve to be attacked. That pissed me off.
You're right that Strider was not as funny in this book. Too busy being angsty over Kaia. This made me laugh
"pro:
- Strider in the scenes without Kaia"
This book sucked nuggets!!! It took all I had to finish it!! At first I thought it was because I didnt really care for Strider or that harpy chick who's name I refuse to remember, but then other folks were talking about how much the book sucked so then I knew it wasn't me!!! Just FYI, I knew it wasn't me all the time!!!

I wanted Haidee to kill the Harpy!

Hahaha!
You're definitely not alone!
This was my favorite out if the series thus far! I thought it was hilarious and I really liked the harpies. I hope to see more of them in future books. Kaia is one if my favorites! While waiting for the darkest craving, I may read it again.
I really liked the book, but it does seem to have a totally different feel than the other books in the series. Presumably because the focus is on the Harpies rather than the LOTU. I find the Harpies funny and interesting so I wasn't disappointed that Strider's HEA was with Kaia, but their connection would have been a bit more believable if we'd seen a hint or two of an attraction between them in previous books. Instead, we saw some kind of spark between Kane and Kaia and then of course we learned she'd been with the Sexorcist (lol!love their nickname for Paris!).
I'm reading it at the moment and not feeling it at all. I still look forward to other books in the series, but this one is my first real letdown. That being said, Sarah, look at that cover, you should add in your pro list that the cover is hot :D
Also, I see that people who liked it find it funny. I totally get that, b/c I know that one of my big issue is that I don't click with the feel and the humor in the book, it's not my type, so I understand that someone who enjoy it had a great time. Hopefully, I'll be lucky and I'll enjoy the next books as much as you loved this one.
I am re-reading this book now as I'm not sure I gave it enough of a chance when it came out. I didn't like Kaia and it biased me against the book from the beginning. Anyway, I thought I'd try it again. One thing I have noticed (and I don't know if it's just me who has noticed this so I apologize if this has been brought up elsewhere) is that a lot of the Lords (not all) refer to Baden as having been their "best friend". I think there has been book after book where the H said something like that and now Strider has done that too. Baden was a busy guy, to have that many best friends! I wonder who he thought of as his bestie?

loll I also wondered that at times.. I think he was besties with all of them. Those type of people that get along well with everyone, I think that was the type of person he was. I think I like him, it's unpleasant to imagine him in that other place with a bunch of people who hate him surrounding him. It would be incredibly intriguing if he returned and got his own book, then we would get a look at what that other world was like! But idk what will happen. I say I think I like him because I don't know how I feel about how he basically took the easy way out, committed suicide really, so he would stop suffering.. or stop others' suffering.. what was his demon again? And yes, Haidee did him in but he chose it."Q: Are you going to bring Baden or Pandora back?" Gena said,
"A: Yes. No. Maybe. Oh, I don't know. :) How's that for a solid answer?"
So idk, everything surrounding him is up in the air.
Baden's demon was Distrust. He ended up not trusting anyone, poor guy, wanting some peace and instead he's stuck with Pandora and whoever else is there. I hope Gena gets him un-stuck and out of there with some kind of HEA.Oh, and I do remember from somewhere that Baden was made first so he got most of the goodness and Galen was made last so he got the least. I thought that was interesting and kind of explains why all the Lords thought so much of him.
I gotta admit, I'm liking Kaia better. (*ducks and runs for cover*)
Thanks, I'd forgotten. That's true. Where he is right now, sucks. (Bet he wishes he'd never chosen death.) That's interesting, about Baden and Galen, I must have glossed over that:p
loll I LIKE KAIA!! so no need to hide;)

Yes, I felt bad when Aeron was able to leave the afterlife because he'd made a sacrifice and Olivia had to tell Baden that he had to stay because he never made any kind of sacrifice. But, I'm hopeful Gena will rescue him and get him out of there in some kind of secondary plot line.
Gena's secret about The Darkest Surrender. Since I can't stand Kaia I wish she would have chosen one of the other options.https://www.facebook.com/genashowalte...

Possessed by the demon of Defeat, Strider cannot lose a challenge without suffering unimaginable pain. For him, nothing stands in the way of victory. Until Kaia, an enchanting Harpy, tempts him to the razor's edge of surrender. Known among her people as The Disappointment, Kaia must bring home the gold in the Harpy Games or die. Strider is a distraction she can't afford because he has an agenda of his own-steal first prize, an ancient godly artifact, before the winner can be named. But as the competition heats up, only one prize will matter-the love neither had thought possible...
