i started to listen to her narration of Villette but kept getting distracted - I have 2 books narrated by her in the pile for the near future - The Flight of Gemma Hardy which is supposedly a modern version of Jane Eyre and Cold Comfort a mystery set in IcelandI had the same issue with Susan Erickson - I just listened to one of her narrations of a Meg Gardiner book and I kept seeing Eve and Peabody
She narrated the first 11 or so of the Anne Perry mystery series, and they were excellent narrations.I have not tackled Outlander yet on audio. Not really sure if I want to endure that story again or not.
Oh, my yes I have had success with an absolutely fabulous book (in print and in audio) of THE SECRET COUNTESS by Eva Ibbotson. A truly wonderful book! And I never once thought of Jamie and Claire.
Yes, yes to the Ibbotson, plus Katie Fforde's Life Skills (on Audible) or Thyme Out (shelled out for the cassettes-ouch). She does well with MC Beaton's Poor Relation series--unrealistic regency period, but fun characterizations.
I listened to at least one of her narrations of Anne Perry's books after listening to her narration of the Outlander series. I thought she did a great job because I too was afraid I'd only hear Claire and Jamie. But then my books didn't have any Scots accents so maybe that was the difference.
Just read that the Outlander Series is coming to Starz this fall. I've only listened to the first one - very well done by Ms Porter!! There goes the rest of my credit over the next month!
I've got all the Outlander series & they are awesome! I bought them from Readers Direct as they became available, but the problem is the CD's take up 'so much space' on my Itunes account versus an 'Audible book download' plus the CD's have some problems so I have to fix them in order to listen to them in order. I hate to re-buy them but I think I must in order to get them in a file size that fits on my Ipod.....I don't care, I'd probably buy them a 3rd time if need be....Can't live without listening to my daily dose of the Jamie....Hehehe. I'm addicted.....
I was trying to remember when I first fell in love with Davina Porter's narration. A little research turned up The Ladies of Missalonghi, a Recorded Books cassette set from my local library. Yeah, yeah, I know about the plagiarism issue but still a great read.
Davina Porter was fabulous as Jane Rochford in The Boleyn Inheritance. She nailed the role without any bleedover from Outlander. On the other hand, I was unable to listen to any other books by Jim Dale after the Harry Potter series because his voice(s) were too inextricably linked to that series in my mind. Kind of a shame because he is so incredibly talented.
Davina Porter narrates some of the Marion Chesney/M.C. Beaton regencies and the Hamish MacBeth "Death of a --" series as well. I think Chesney's regencies are very weak but Ms. Porter's narration makes them worth listening to. And since Hamish is another young Scotsman, they are worth listening to.
I haven't listened to any of her other narrations, but I would try them. Someone else mentioned having this problem with Susan Ericksen and her narration of In a Death. I didn't have the same problem, her narration of Jane Eyre was fantastic. Having said that, I do have a problem listening to The Scottish Prisoner because I can't handle listening to anyone else do Jamie. It was something I worried about with the series. I have tried to listen to this book several times and just can't get through it.

I don't think I can envision any characters other than Jamie and Claire - after listening to so many hours (with relistens we're talking hundreds) of the Outlander books - Porter = Outlander. Anyone else have luck with listening to other Porter narrations?
