Theresa Must be the dog days of summer. What's everybody reading as we head into the last weekend of July?

message 3: by Gretchen (new)

Gretchen (gkonkler5) Vicky I'm SO excited to hear that about Last Night In Twisted River!!

I'm reading Slammerkin. Just a few pages in and can't wait to have some time to really dig in.

message 4: by Leslie (new)

Leslie | 95 comments I'm reading a YA book. Divergent by Veronica Roth. It's the first post Hunger Games dystopia book I'm solidly enjoying. Not sure what will be next

message 5: by Carol (new)

Carol (actutor) I'm reading Jennifer Weiner's latest. Will I finish it before it is due at the library? That is a good question.

message 6: by Liz (new)

Liz I just finished The Dressmaker which I thought was quite good. I think A Natural Woman: A Memoir is probably up next since its the next one due back at the library.

message 7: by Caroline (new)

Caroline (caro7) I'm still reading Inside Scientology: The Story of America's Most Secretive Religion. I just haven't had as much time to read lately, so that's why I'm STILL on this! I'm about halfway through.

Caroline (caro7) Gretchen, I just now noticed that you asked in a previous thread about books about Joseph Smith, David Koresh, and others like these men. One I highly recommend that is about Joseph Smith and how Mormonism came to be is Under the Banner of Heaven: A Story of Violent Faith. It is fantastic; Krakauer is to be applauded for his research! I've never read anything about Koresh, but I'm sure there are books out there. I THINK the cult that believed spaceships were coming to take members away is the Raelian cult (can't believe I remembered that!). Here's some info on that: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ra%C3%AB...

Sandy (odamom) | 18 comments The Time Travelers Wife. Excellent!

message 10: by Annika (new)

Annika I recently finished The Fault in Our Stars which was excellent! Now I'm reading The Nightmare which is a follow-up to The Hypnotist by Lars Kepler. So far I like this one better. I'm also listening to Shadow of Night which I am just adoring.

Annika The dogs days of summer continue here in CO, but fortunately we have gotten some rain so the fires are pretty much out. I think we're on a 22 day streak of days above 90. It's been a brutal summer.

I LOVED Last Night in Twisted River! I read Irving's new one, In One Person a few weeks ago and it was excellent as well. However, I agree with your strategy. Irving's books are too weird to read them too close together.

Mine, too!

Lynne - The Book Squirrel (squirrelsend) I am re-reading The Stand by Stephen King - this months audible download. I am still re-reading The Passage, need to hurry up as need to read the 2nd in the series The Twelve for review.

Also listening to Sense and Sensibility and Sea Monsters by Ben H. Winters which was a bargain buy from Poundland, unabridged cds. I am reading Flowers for Algernon, Friends, Lovers, Chocolate by Alexander McCall Smith and trying to read Empire in Black and Gold by Adrian Tchaikovsky for my sci fi group, which is really boring and I haven't finished one chapter yet!
