Pretty much the same! I also pay attention to reviews that strike me as perceptive--not all reviews are created equal, but sometimes I can tell from a review how I am likely to respond to a book.
The cover. Not so much a flashy splash of color but something enigmatic, symbolic. Of course the blurb, or back text, and if I see reviews with more than a simple "I really liked this book". If I see a long review then I get really curious because it means the reader connected with the story on a lot of levels.
The cover and back page blurb. But if I'm in a bookstore or library, I sit down and read the first pages. They have to grab. Also I look for reviews that are good.
In the bookstore or library it's the cover and the blurb on the back. On my Kindle it has to be the blurb and if it's linked to other books/author "I might like," that is always enough for me to try!
For me, it's also the book cover, the feel and texture of the the book itself (I prefer paperbacks), the reviews made in the book itself from other writers/newspapers, and the pre-cis on the back cover. For instance, a couple of years ago, I purchased the memoir "My Queer War" by James Lord on the strength of a review I read about it in Tne New York Times Book Review. In other words, the review sold me on the book.
I look at the cover, and the synopsis written inside. I like either paperbacks or hardcover, doesn't matter, just the content inside.
The cover and Title draw me over to pick it up and the Bourbon and inside reviews cicnclh the buy for me.
I read the author's bio,the cover and the synopsis of the book. I also try to look at Reviews or lists of where its ranked and the big clinch is how my gut reacts to my first glance.
