But you would need to teach the dog NOT to bark, except in emergencies. And usage of the dog would depend on whether or not it can get infected -- you wouldn't want the dog to bite the zombies if he can get infected. Otherwise, they'd be very useful in distracting or even somewhat immobilizing a zombie. Two good Kindle books with dogs in a zombie apocalypse:
Bones: The Complete Apocalypse Saga
A Prairie Home Apocalypse or: What the Dog Saw
Keep in mind that dogs might go feral after an apocalypse too, and run around in packs, so they could end up being as big a problem as the zombie horde or other survivors.
Yeah, as much as I love my labradorable retriever, he would certainly bark and give me away to the z's. Then hide behind me for protection, no doubt, LOL!A Twitter friend (@Wausauloner) does an ongoing zombie story there. Besides featuring helper dogs, feral ones are also a part of the story. All the tweets are archived at http://www.wausauloner.com/ if anyone wanted to catch up on the story.
I have to agree with the last point most. People keep forgetting that come the end, we are social animals. And when you have nobody, sometimes loneliness is your worst enemy. Remember "I Am Legend"? Just having that friendship, that kindred spirit... And let's be honest, sometimes I prefer the company of a dog than of my fellow man! ;)
