Leslie | 1664 comments Hi! I only recently joined GoodReads and just discovered your group. Mysteries are definitely my favorite genre and I'm a bit of an Anglophile so this seemed like a good match!

message 2: by VickiLee (new)

VickiLee So much of the English mystery has seeped into my being over the years that when I saw this group title, I felt like I was being called home. I am in with a happy willingness to read and discuss!

message 3: by Sheilah (new)

Sheilah | 5 comments I recently joined the group and mysteries are my favorites. P.D. James, the earlier Rendells, all the Barbara Vines and Dorothy Sayre are my faves.

I have been searching for a series of books I read years ago about a character named Lucia. I believe the author was E. F. Benson. The series takes place in a small English village involving the comings and goings of the villagers. It is not a mystery series, but I thought this group might be familiar with it and help me track the books

Leslie | 1664 comments E.F. Benson did indeed write a series of books (6, I believe) about Lucia and her arch-enemy Miss Mapp. The first book in the series, Queen Lucia, is available free as an ebook from Amazon, ManyBooks.net, and other websites...

Excellent taste. I'm a bit surprised not to find Sayers included in the list -- is she an oversight, or do you not like her?

I didn't care for Sayers in my younger years, but i have a title on my Kobo (Busman's Holiday)to give her another shot. I've also never read Allingham or Wentworth but do want to try them as well.

Busman's Honeymoon is the last book in the series unless you count the recent continuations of Jill Paton Walsh. I always recommend Clouds of Witness for those who are just starting the series.

Busman's Honeymoon is very enjoyable, but more for the interactions between the newlyweds than for the mystery itself.

I'm tempted to suggest that you read the earlier novels in which the relationship between Lord Peter and Harriet Vane develops before going straight to GH, but really reading any Sayers is a delight.

Ellen is right that Busman's Honeymoon is Sayers's last book in the series, but Sayers did write a several short stories which take place after BH. They're included in Lord Peter: The Complete Lord Peter Wimsey Stories (which, for some reason, doesn't come up in the "add book/author" search).

Sheila I have copies of "Lucia Rising" and "Lucia Victrix" both compilations , published by Penguin, love these books , apparently they are making a new tv series in the UK , hope its as good as the old series with Geraldine McEwen and Prunella Scales x

Carmen (mrscarm) I've just recently joined this group, having tried a few others on Goodreads, but they just didn't seem to be the one. I'm hoping with my love of mysteries and the English language that this is the group for me. I have ordered December's book of the month and look forward to reading and discussing it with everyone.
