Let's Talk About...Book Ending Depression
Oh! This is a great idea Booknut! A book that has left me curled in a corner hyperventilating and waiting for the next one is definitely Clockwork Prince. I can not wait for Clockwork Princess!
The end of Harry Potter when i cried at the realization it was all over!! no! and also at the end of a fantasy trilogy by an author called Chris Evans (the iron elves) whose books i so loved & did not want to end.
I agree with The Giver. It ended so unsatisfactorily! So did Mockingjay. It's like, that's it? What just happened? It seemed too happily ever after.

b) Zombie Blondes (this book ended on a cliffhanger and there is no sequel. You have to come up with your own ending
c) Fox BY Margaret Wild"
THE GIVER!!! GAH!!! Sooo many unanswered questions! The author needs to make a sequel..grrr
Lucinda wrote: "The end of Harry Potter when i cried at the realization it was all over!! no! and also at the end of a fantasy trilogy by an author called Chris Evans (the iron elves) whose books i so loved & did ..."Agreed! The ending of Harry Potter was MAGNIFICENT!!! But it didn't make me cry any less! Just the realization that I will never get to read another new part of Harry's story..it had me bawling of course!

Massive book depression... why do they have to end?"
The Hunger Games ending was just so...abrupt. I didn't like at all how Suzanne Collins 'closed it'.

the book does have a trilogy. There are two after it but are not about Jonas. They're separate to the first but similar in terms of the themes, aspects, community etc.

I read all the rest of the books (The Giver, Gathering Blue, Messenger)
The Messenger definetly was one of those books that was unsatisfactory. (view spoiler)

Yes, DEFINITELY agree with you on the Giver. And Mockingjay wasn't that bad though. (view spoiler)

Seriously? Pregnant? that cliffhanger? died"
I know!!! I was like "Yeah, being captured is horrible - can't deny that - but you're pregnant too!!" Yikes. The next book better have a nice, lovely conclusion, otherwise I may be in need of therapy. :D

Oh my gosh. The worst post-book depression I have had so far was The Book Thief. At the end, (view spoiler) I cried my heart and soul out afterward. I swear, it crumbled into pieces and then a herd of elephants went dancing on it! :( It was a very good book though.

My worst book ending depression was when i read the last page of 'Harry Potter & the deathly hallows'. I sat on my bed and said to myself that it was all over...and i wept! :(

Oh, I hope so. We soooooo need a Lily and James love story.
Lucinda wrote: "Do you think JK Rowling might delve back into the fantasy genre?? *pretty please!*"Wouldn't that just be the best thing ever!!!! Ahh I wish!!!
Lucinda wrote: "Do you think JK Rowling might delve back into the fantasy genre?? *pretty please!*"Oh my goodness, I hope so.
βιβλιοφάγος (a.k.a. Cat) wrote: "Oh, I hope so. We soooooo need a Lily and James love story."That would make me one happy camper.
My mother asked me yesterday what 'kind' of book i would like for my XMAS present, and if you recal i did hint a while ago about 'The Casual Vacancy'. However after much thought i realized that i am more into fantasy and not so much into depression or looking at the 'horrors' of what lurks beneath the glossy UK streets...after all it would be a bit distressing to read as i myself live in state housing (on an estate). So i have decided against it..i know! But, i would hate for her to buy it and then be disapointed.
Yeesh I know, books are way too expensive...
House of Many Ways drop-kicked me into depression, not because I didn't like the ending, but because it was all over. Like, "It's been a hell of a ride, and it's been nice knowing you through it. Now die." I suffered through months of agony and hope for the hopeless. Daughter of Smoke and Bone was another beautiful killer. This one was like: "It was great until it wasn't and then I knew and once I knew I knew and I couldn't unknow even though I wanted to so bad." The waiting was like the moment after you get the wind knocked out of you: your lungs are screaming for air and all you want to do is breathe but you can't.
Pandemonium, oh, the anguish you caused me. I was beyond words or consoling. Like, "It's not fair, but you knew that. The world is ending, and I don't know what comes next."
Anna wrote: "Can I just say I'm totally experiencing this after Clockwork Princess"
I second that.
I second that.
Booknut wrote: "Anna wrote: "Can I just say I'm totally experiencing this after Clockwork Princess"I second that."
Amen.
Clockwork Princess ruined me.
My scintillating review explains how I felt about CP. Um, if it will help, I'm pledging to wear white every day this coming June, just an idea. I've found that things like that help. Also the excessive use of music.
I keep trying to read another book, get a few chapters in, and then close it in disgust. Not because it's a bad book, but because I want it to be Clockwork Princess. I want it to have the beautiful complex characters and everything else CP has. I want it to have my Will *sob*

Mine? Probably His Dark Materials, The Amber Spyglass. The end of that (view spoiler)[when she and Will go back to their separate worlds never to be with one another again - and they'll go to their park and sit by the fountain which is the same in both worlds and pretend they're with one another (hide spoiler)] was HEARTBREAKING!
And the most heartbreaking endings are the ones that end - when you know there is NO other book afterwards.
