I've just picked up my first book and have only managed three chapters (my fault not his). So far the darkness to his writing has really impressed me. Very engrossing and I think he's going to have to take a severe turn into chick lit for me not to continue through his series.
Love the First Law Trilogy, was kinda disappointed with Best Served Cold. The Heroes was better, yet still not as good as First Law. Looking forward to Red Country :)
I absolutely loved the first half of Best Served Cold but the second part...not so much. Loved The First Law. Mainly for Glokta...or is it Glotka, can never remember. Haven't read The Heroes yet.
I'm a big fan of the First Law, and love Joe Abercrombie's universe.Best Served Cold is the weakest I think but he really made it up with The Heroes (non-stop action-slasher-witty on 600+ pages IS possible it seems)
I'm really looking forward to Red Country ;-)
Love Joe Abercrombie and agree that Best Served Cold is probably the weakest book so far, though still not bad. Not caught up with The Heroes yet but from what's been stated above, looks like it'll be a good read!
I started off slow with the first book, mainly because I had other things going on. Then suddenly I was hooked. The humor was brilliant, I adore Glotka and the non-stop action kept me reading until dawn.I read the last half of the book in two days and now I'm on book 2. This time though I am taking it moderately slow, a chapter a day so I can enjoy the story for longer.
I'm sounding a bit crazy aren't I.
ive not yet read any of his books i am planning on reading The Blade Itself later this month. Im looking forward to it as the reviews all seem positive
I read the First Law trilogy around a year ago, and I loved it.. he really did make fantasy refreshing in a way.. I loved Glokta too, but can't forget Logen either, and all the others are pretty much as well-built as them..@L.E. ~ nope, you don't.. it's kinda like it was with me too *grin*
(view spoiler)
I've read The First Law Trilogy. Currently listening to the Audible version of Best Served Cold and the narration by Steven Pacey is awesome. I wish I had done the Trilogy by Audible now. I loved Logen, but my only disappointment is that he does that magic in the first book where he stores fire under his tongue and then sets the bandit on fire by blowing on him. Then we never see or hear anything like that again.

yeah almost finished red country. Joe isn't one of my favourite authors but I am a fan of his work. red country doesn't disappoint.
The idea of a Fantasy / Western series is so awesome I have to read him soon. He's getting mentioned a lot.
I love the first law trilogy. I have the heroes but i haven't had a chance to read it yet. I find myself thinking about the characters and some of the scenes in this series often even though its been a while since i read them.
Its funny because there's not really any heroes n the books, but you find yourself liking the characters despite themselves.

He has great characters, intense action and dark, witty humor. What are your thoughts on him? Can't wait to get to The Heroes and his new novel Red Country.
