Since we haven't yet reached September, there's no good place to put this where it will be seen. But if anyone needs a copy of The Stars My Destination it is being released as we speak by Library of America in a collection of Golden Age SF novels. I'm excited by this development.

good news about a great book!

I had heard recently (I think on SF Signal) that the legal rights to Alfred Besters work was tied up. It's good to hear that something must have shaken free. They need to make this an audio book.

Still like to see it (hear it) as n audio book.

Just read The Demolished Man and enjoyed it. So far Bester is 2 for 2 with me. Thumbs up. He has a really interesting narrative style IMO.

If you liken Bester, you should try to find a copy of his novel, Who He?. It isn't SF, but still very much a Bester book with a strong female character for its time. It's about the advertising biz and reminded me a bit of Bu Jack Barron.

David, that sounds like a good book. I'll be looking for it on my used bookstore haunts. Thanks for the tip.

Not sure how much work he did for them but Bester wrote for DC Comics back in the forties. The only story I know he wrote for sure he wrote the story introducing Solomon Grundy in the Green Lantern strip..

Okay I found it, It was entitled Fighters Never Quit and the reason I couldn't find it was due to the fact I was looking for the wrong title. Unfortunately it appears most of Bester's Golden Age comic work has not been reprinted. which makes it tough to find.

I believed he worked in radio, too. But Bester had a big influence in DC Comics, mostly for one very important thing. He wrote the now classic Green Lantern oath.

The Stars My Destination a book that clearly states the mood on Earth after the H Bomb. Highly recommended. Written in 1958, I believe.

audio books are rare birds once you get past current publications.
