This fascinated me. A blob in Garland. It could be the title of a romance novel, science fiction, a lead in to the zombie apocalypse, or biochemical warfare. I did some searching and found some stories about it appearing, climbing telephone poles, and oozing purple-red "blood" when poked with a hoe. Coincidentally (really?) there were UFO sightings in nearby Aurora. No causal connection discussed in what I found.
I would LOVE there to be a book to explore this farther. The nearest I could find is a link to the Texas Monthly: http://books.google.com/books?id=dCsE...
Please, more information!

@kate - I think your article might have been used as a reference for the book I seek...seems like the same info is presented. @lobstergirl - I'm afraid that's not it, but thanks
The blob story is discussed here ( http://www.straightdope.com/columns/r...) and gives the woman's name as "Sybil Christian". Googling her name finds a book called "Unexplained!" by Jerome Clark and several similar books by the same author. Hope that helps.
@andy and kate - thank you for your help, but I'm afraid that's not it either. The book I'm looking for references a blob from 1973; the Christian woman's blob was from 1979. That sounds terribly odd, now that I read it back to myself! Thanks again
