My very favorite classic books are Jane Eyre and Les Miserables. I also love Jane Austen, but they kind of mesh together in my memory. I reread every once in a while to pull it all back into order. :)In that same vein, there is a current author named Julie Klassen who is very Austen-like but an easier read. I LOVE her books.
Another favorite current author is Dean Koontz. I love twisty, creepy stuff & his work definitely qualifies for that category. Stephen King-ish, but usually easier to follow. In the midst of the twistedness, he usually has a spiritual conviction running through it. My favorite of his is a series of books involving the character Odd Thomas.
Right now I'm reading a very intriguing book called The Book Thief (by Markus Zusak). It's a story set in Nazi Germany and it's narrated by Death. It's a different read, but it has totally sucked me in. He (Death) actually gives away the end of the story (who dies, how they die, etc) as you're reading through it, but it is done in such a way that you don't feel like you're being robbed of the story. There's still an element of suspense & mystery. It's very beautiful.
Kristen you have sold me, I am going to add The Book Thief to my list, it sounds very interesting. I have heard of Julie Klassen but havent read any of her works but I will have to check her out also. :)
OK, I am about to finish Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn. It's a twister & I haven't come to the end so I can't officially review it, but so far it is awesome! But...I'm nearing the end & need something else to read STAT! LOL! I need suggestions!
Have you read any Jodi Piccoult or Kristen Hannah? Night Road and Home Front by Kristen Hannah is really good. I am currently reading the Gone series by Michael Grant, I am in the middle of the 2nd book and so far it is pretty good :)
Also, I am a big fan of the Divergent series right now. It is on the same level as The Hunger Games if you liked that. :)
