In this Chapter, Genji now 27-28 years old, the Akashi characters are introduced and Genji returns from exile.

The Japanese creation myth of The fierce weather of the Inland Sea abated and thankful prayers and gifts made to the gods, Genji's follows up on the dream message from his father, departing isolated Suma to sail to prosperous Akashi. The Akashi Novice (monk and former governor of Harima) introduces Genji to his beautiful daughter Akashi no Kimi. The two of them play musical instruments, Genji marrying her. Their daughter, Akashi no Himegimi, will become an Empress. Genji continues to correspond with Murasaki, and His Majesty Suzaku pardons Genji. After a teary farewell and an exchange of robes with the Akashi Lady, Genji returns to the Imperial City.
