In chapter 11, Murt mentions that he has to go check out something for Art Fowler. Do you thing this is a reference to Artemis Fowl(er)?

Maybe they came up with it because the author had something like that in his head but I don't think it was on purpose.
It's possible. Many authors reference their work in other books of theirs. For instance, Rick Riordan referenced the Percy Jackson books in his Egyptian series The Kane Chronicles. Amos avoids Manhattan because "there are other gods over there." More obviously, Edward Eager directly advertises his book Half Magic in all of his other fiction works, suggesting the reader read Half Magic in the text, for differing reasons.
