BOOKSFrom the many shelves around me
I hear the books whisper
They call my name
They want to tell me their stories
The people inside them asking to meet me
The places inside them inviting me in
History calls me back
The future calls me forward
The books beg me to experience
All they have to offer
Places unseen
People unknown
Things undiscovered
Just a peek — that’s all they ask for
Just a peek — but that’s all it takes
And then I’m lost
For hours, days, months, years
Lifetimes…
Do I want to take that chance?
I turn to the shelves and smile
Yes, I do!

ONLY ONEThe music plays
The people smile
They play the game
For a little while
But when the day is over
And the night is come
There’s nobody else
They’re only one
All of it’s appearance
None of them have friends
They’re just a bunch of frauds
Who lie and pretend
You fake the life
You fake the smile
You fake the happiness
For a little while
But when things fall apart
And your life comes undone
Nobody’s there for you
You’re only one

YOUR LOVEI watch the rain come down
Remembering the times with you
When I thought that I might drown
In your love
When I see a flash of lightning
I catch a glimpse of your dear face
And I see your brown eyes smiling
Showing me your love
When the thunder rolls I hear
Your deep strong voice
Whisper softly in my ear
Telling of your love
As I listen to the rain
I remember you holding me close
And saying everything would be okay
I was safe in your love
But then they took you away from me
They stole away your life
And left me feeling sad and lonely
Lonely for your love
To them you meant not a thing
They lost nothing in your death
But when you stopped your breathing
I lost your love
Now my tears pour like the rain
Falling down my face
But they cannot wash away
The memories of your love
You were my safety in the storm
You were my shelter
You kept me warm
With your love
Now the storm threatens me
The thunder ’round me rolls
The lightning crashes over me
And I can’t feel your love
I pray the storm will take me
Take my breath and life
For I cannot go on living
Life without your love

Thanks, Leanna! :) Ummm... I'll try to explain... ;)1- I wrote it while sitting between bookshelves at the library. I was one of about 5 people upstairs in the library, so it was super quiet up there. But, I could still hear the quiet voices of the people downstairs. It made me think of the movie "Inkheart" when he could, sorta, "hear the books". These words came into my mind & I jotted them down in a notebook that I always keep in my bag.
2- I wrote this about a rough time in my life when I was 16. To many people, everything seemed fine... normal... But it wasn't. We learned that our pastor wasn't what we'd thought he was. Our church split & I lost my 3 best friends when their families left. Many people I thought I knew & could trust turned out to be liars & pretenders... It was a pretty depressing time, but it brought me closer to my sis than I'd ever thought possible.
3- I was writing a story about a girl who's husband had been killed in the Middle East shortly after they got married. One night, I just sorta... connected with this character & wrote this poem from her perspective. I planned to include this in the story as a poem she had written.
ik, it worked a little bit ago but its froze, and im on my gr nook app, not the official website, and a girl i met on a diff. group will probably join, and so talk to her, shes new on the other group!!!!
Well, I'm not on the comp, so I can't email you. We can get on the chat thread on the ROT group if you want...

that's a good one :)
Thanks, y'all!I would've responded sooner, but I had left the group for a while & wasn't aware of your comments.
Yay!!! Another poetry writer!!! These are awesome!! And you joined the group!!! :P Haha, can you tell I'm excited?
And *Highfives* for Inkheart!! Have you read the book?

Yeah... this is pretty much all the poetry I've written. ;) I enjoy it, but the mood just really has to hit me for me to get one written. :PHaha! I kinda got that feeling, yes. :)
No, I haven't read Inkheart. When I saw the movie, I didn't realize there was a book. But I put it on my to-read list as soon as I heard about it!
You've got to read the books! They are WAY better than the movie! And we both know the movie was good! :P
Cool! I write poetry (like you, when the mood hits me), but I haven't really found my voice in prose writing.
:D
Oh gosh, it's soooo much better then the movie. They changed a huge part of the plot to end the movie in only one book. Cornelia Funke is my favorite modern authoress, her other series Reckless is amazing too. I have a feeling you'll really like her.

I think I may have read some of yours before, but I'm not sure... I love writing in general -- I write all the time! :)
I'll look those up! :)
Don't be too envious... I didn't say I write *well* lol! ;PGuess what -- I just checked & my library has Inkheart! I'll have to make a note to remember to get it next time I go. :)
Lol! Well if you write your prose anything like your poetry, then I'm sure you write some good stuff. :)
Yay!!! Haha, I can't wait for you to read. Let me know what you think when you do.

I'm glad you like it. :)Something you might find interesting... the character I wrote it for is named Sara. ;)
THE MASKShe puts on the mask
The mask of a smile
The mask of "I'm okay"
She pretends to be fine
Pretends that all is well
But underneath that mask
Is brokenness and pain
She's tired and she's hurting
She's worn and alone
But she puts on her mask
And hides it all inside
She doesn't want people to see
Doesn't want them to know
The truth she keeps hidden away
When alone, she cries bitter tears
She asks God "Why?"
And she begs for relief
Yet she wonders if He hears
If He cares-- if He's even there
But no one can know this
No one must see behind the mask
People ask "How are you?"
But do they really want to know?
She doesn't believe it
So she puts on a smile
She puts on a laugh
She says all is well
But it's only a mask

WHENWhen my heart is breaking
I know that God is there
And He will pick up the pieces
With tender loving care
When the tears of sorrow flow
My God hears my cry
And will with His gentle hand
Wipe all of my tears dry
When troubles overwhelm me
And trials come along
God will give me comfort and peace
And in the night a song
When I am hurting deeply
When my soul is wracked with pain
God is everything I need
Oh, praise His dear sweet name!
