Robert Bennett I posted this on Facebook and am going to do a blog post on it soon but I thought Goodreads readers and fans might be interested as well.

I'm working on a novel about Louisiana that I hope to have finished in time for the NSU/Natchitoches Folklife Festival this summer. While doing some research I went to my family tree on Ancestry.com and decided to take one line back a little further.

All the trees in my family tree have people in Louisiana for a hundred years or more but this one line went back even further.

I was elated (good word huh?) when I discovered my 7th great grandfather was Louis Antoine Juchereau de St. Denis, the founder of my hometown of Natchitoches, La.

His tomb is actually underneath a store on Front Street, adjacent to the bridge. A church used to stand where the store is now.

I guess that explains why Natchitoches is the only place that truly feels like home!
