I created a diagram of the whole spiritual geneology of Neoplatonists, but it is in Greek.

Till now I have study Neoplatonism mainly in relation to Byzantine Philosophy.

Thanks Katelis! For some reason your comment didn't show up on my feed until very later I saw it on your page.

As a newcomer to the world of Greek Myths, I think I 'll get this book at some point.


By the way I came across an interesting quote (about Sufism, the hinduised islam of the subcontinent) by one of the leading lights of Islamist revivalist thought of the 20th century, Mr. Mohammad Iqbal and it reminded me of your point about Plotinus as the point of contact between the Greek and Vedantic thought:

This Neo-Platonism is an altered version of Plato that one of his followers (Plotinus) presented as a religion. In Muslims this was spread through Christian translations and became a part of Islam. In my opinion this is strictly un-Islamic and has no relationship with the Qura'nic philosophy. The edifice of Sufism is based on this Greek absurdity.

Often I am surprised by the so many books we have in common on Goodreads’ shelfs. The criticism about the Greek Myths of Robert Graves is probably known.
I think it’s a good idea of buying the Greek Myths for the two following reasons:

a) the pleasure of reading an excellent narrative of the ancient myths,
b) for learning objective information about what the ancient authors say.

So it is really a reference book, a classic in its genre. But it isn’t a book one can use if he wants to write a study in mythology, that was the point in the comment I made.
Nevertheless, for the students and scholars in classics is also a good introduction to the matter.
Also, I have the impression that those later are inspired by the observations Graves made in
his book, even if they don’t say it openly.
