Michael Bowler I'm plowing through a very detailed outline/rough first draft of my "Children of the Knight" sequel, tentatively subtitled "Running Through a Dark Place." It's already 224 single spaced pages and nearly 113,000 words, and I still have a ways to go before reaching the conclusion. A lot was set up in the first book that needs to be followed up on and much more happens as a result of new characters who were not present in part one. It really delves into how society sees its youth and explores the current adult response to kids who screw up badly or commit crimes. In the old days, adults recognized that children were different, that they made mistakes and bad choices, often REALLY bad ones. But back in the day adults gave kids a second chance, or a third chance. Kids were worked with to try and fix whatever led them astray. Today, in our disposable society, kids who screw up are thrown away like yesterday's trash. We don't rehabilitate, and we don't give them second chances anymore. It's both sad and disturbing. Writing these books is a challenge because of all the issues delved into, as well as all the character and plot threads, but it's fun, too. Hopefully those who read the first one, due out around June, will be interested in the sequel. At its core, of course, as with virtually all stories, it's a love story.

Michael Bowler My latest novel, "Children of the Knight," has been selected for publication by Harmony Ink Press, due out in paperback and ebook format around June. I'm excited it's finally going to be available and I'm already hard at work on the sequel. :)

Michael Bowler I'm heading this week to the Miami Book Fair International to accept a Reader's Favorite Silver Medal for "A Matter of Time" and to promote the book. I will also be pitching my new novel, "Children of the Knight" to any publishers willing to listen. Ha! Wish me luck. Or not. I'm going anyway. LOL

Michael Bowler Check this out: Jamie, the main character in my book, "A Matter of Time," kindly consented to an interview with "Beyond the Books" and speaks very highly of me and how well I portrayed him in the story. Thanks, Jamie for the compliment, but I'm afraid you're right about the sequel - that ton of bricks will fall on your head. Sorry, my friend.

Michael Bowler Check out my "Virtual Book Tour" all this month through Pump Up Your Book. Here's the link

If you've read my book, take note of the following: I was asked to pretend my book was being made into a film and to "cast" the movie with actors I thought would fit my characters. Check out my choices and post your opinions. If you think someone else might be better in a role, post that here, too. Maybe Hollywood will take notice. Ha!

Bradley Wallace Murphy just turned thirteen, and he’s not happy about it. His life is lousy, with no relief in sight. He doesn’t fit in at school, he’s no good at sports, a bully torments him, he’s a disappointment to his parents, and his only “friends” are fictional characters on a TV show called “Dark Shadows.” He’s on the verge of manhood - and wants no part of that, either.
Then he finds the egg. And everything changes.
From this egg hatches Whilly, a supposedly mythological dragon that bonds with him physically, emotionally and spiritually. The sudden responsibility of hiding and feeding and caring for a rapidly growing dragon in a small California city in 1970 forces Bradley Wallace to grow up whether he wants to or not.
Through their adventures together, boy and dragon learn the true nature of their symbiosis, and Bradley Wallace comes to understand that he is not just a misfit kid who happened to find a misfit creature from some other time. He is something far more dangerous. More dangerous than anyone in history. So dangerous that he’ll be killed if the truth comes out. The boy who doesn’t want to grow up comes to realize that it might actually be better if he didn’t.
