Yes, my time on GR has been rather limited, as well, due to a few projects, most of which are done now or winding down. However, another opportunity has presented itself. Never a dull moment!!!

And I really enjoyed your review!

message 70: by Glenn

Glenn Russell Thanks for liking my review of Fiasco, Forrest. Hope your creative life is treating you well. I'm engaged in a creative project that takes loads of time and takes me away from Goodreads, but I enjoy checking in and even writing a review now and again.

Probably because most people haven't read Nietzsche! :)

Glenn Russell Hey Forrest. Thanks for liking my review of Nietzsche's The Birth of Tragedy. I think I must have set some kind of Goodreads record with this review. Over 70 "likes" without one comment. I guess all those tragic masks might have freaked people out!

Thanks! Your memory is likely much better than mine. I had to think about it today when someone asked how old I was. I was counting on my fingers to figure it out: "Let's see. It's 2015 . . . And I was born in . . ."

I've only recently started taking philosophical delves. Had a few bad experiences in the only philosophy course I took in college. But my own, unofficial explorations have been enlightening. There are other Goodreaders among my GR friends who are far more erudite than I am!

message 55: by Vivian

Vivian Well, this should be fun. I don't have a lot of friends nosing through philosophy texts, so thanks for the friendvite. Now, I can read vicariously through you and perhaps, even be inspired to pick up one again.

Forrest surfmadpig wrote: "And you are an author too? I hadn't noticed, how wonderful! Better check out your work then! I'll be honest when and if I review though. Which I have a hunch that you'll appreciate."

I like total honesty in reviews. I was a reader long before I was a writer. Besides, it's very difficult for writers to see their own flaws. But writers don't improve if others don't indicate both their strengths and weaknesses, and any writer worth his or her salt wants to know how to improve. Writers that can't handle criticism and acknowledge areas where they need to improve don't last long as writers. ☺

Looking forward to our continued interactions! Thanks for accepting my friend request. Looks like we have some similar tastes!

surfmadpig Oh, and you hated Catcher in the Rye too? I didn't like it either, but I think it's mainly because I read it too late in life - I think I might have enjoyed it when I was about 14. Also, not being able to send a proper message because you're an author is getting on my nerves. But I can see the logic behind it. Oh well.

It really is a great novel. You can sink yourself into it and forget about the world for a while. Took me away more than any other book I've read in the last year.

Thanks! Happy New Year to you, as well. I hope it's filled with fantastic new literary discoveries! Looks to be an eventful year for me. My novel edits are definitely going to cut into my reading time for the first 1/3 of the year. Looking forward to getting back to someone else's book once mine is in order.

Crowinator Hi Forrest,

Thanks for all the great recommendations for places to do fun stuff in Milwaukee and Madison. I especially appreciated the bookstore ideas. We actually got a membership to the art museum and we've been enjoying it so far, and I like the Third Ward a lot from what I've seen of it. I can't wait for nicer weather -- it looks like Milwaukee has an outdoor festival practically every day in the summer.

Thank you, Sam! And I really liked your review of The Great Gatsby as well! Amazing how that book can pull stuff out of us and string it all out on an examination table. Looking forward to your comments and critiques, too.
