Let me start by saying the one of the main people we follow... I would not hang out with. Definitely would not sit down for coffee with the cop. No thank you. I don't even remember her name, my brain refused. She just bothered me. I knocked off what I did, because she irritated me so much. That said, the story still brought this up to nearly five stars! Still not 100% sure if she was supposed to be likable? Everyone else felt just fine. hahaha Even the loathsome people were better than the cop. It wasn't the narration either, I just really didn't care for being in her head. ANYWAY, everyone else pulled me in and held me there... even when I was wishing I wasn't there to see it. This book mad me cry my own tears... only a couple, but I also spoke out loud to characters several times. I was fully engaged.

I don't want to add spoilers. I think it would be more fun to go in as blind as possible.

I would like to read this again with a physical copy, just to tab and make notes because I had so many thoughts as it went. There was so much going on that I think it's entirely possible I missed a ton of interesting details. There is a LOT going on, but everything ties together so well. I read it in two days... but I only stopped to sleep before finishing it. Then I took a few days to think on it. It is a really compelling story.

I do suggest checking the triggers, as this one dives into some themes that can be uncomfortable, if not straight up traumatizing. Nothing that felt over the top, or done for shock value though. Every horrible detail was there to serve the story and pull you in. It can be a little slow overall, not because it lacks action, but because of the way the mood is calibrated.

Overall, I can think of three people I've already told to read it, and they won't be the last... and now, all of you. It's a twisty time. ...more "
