I feel like it was targeted towards my age group and mean for younger people, which is probably why many readers on here have said they thought it was lacking. MizzSandie, a Goodreads reader has said that they didn't enjoy how many serious issues were discussed in the book like, suicide, death, rape, violence, homosexuality, drugs, fights but were not being fully covered. I agree. I believe that if you're going to cover that many serious issues into one short book en they should be covered in depth. The author, Chbosky didn't really go into any of the issues, they were just kind of left onto the surface and as the reader I didn't really get to stomach any of them. They were very lightly touched and then it was just kind of forgotten about after I got to the next page. It was also brought up that Charlie, the main character who is 15 was seen as much more immature. I disagree. Charlie in my eyes was acting his age, maybe even older. He knew how to handle situations he was thrown in better than I would have at 15. Lola, another reviewer spoke about how Shen thought even though the plot was fairly simple, the characters made worth while. The main character was great but so were the secondary ones, which made the book very interesting for me as the reader. She also brought up about how there are many love stories in the book and not all of them turn out but I actually enjoyed that. I think it was very critical that not every relationship in the book survived because that's honestly what made it interesting. I think the book will only be openly appealing to younger people, like teenagers. I think older people are more likely to not like it before they tend to read too deeply into things rather than teens. They are more likely to relate it to their life in the moment rather than another reader who can't relate to it because it happened to them in the past rather than present. I think a question many people need to think about while reading this book is whether or not it's okay, good, or normal for teenagers to experience the many different issues that were covered in this book. ...more "
