"How does she do it? How does she manage to make the English language sound so good, and seemingly so effortlessly? It's enough to make me jealous." Aug 09, 2026 04:54AM

"Ça fait longtemps que je n'ai lu ce livre, mais il ne m'a pas tellement manqué. J'ai remarque que cela que je n'aime pas trop dans ce livre n'est pas vraiment l'histoire, mais surtout le style d'écriture. Il n'est pas mal exactement, mais il est simplement pas pour moi. Je dois avouer que le héros ne me plait pas vraiment, non plus. Bon, le héros de la première partie ; la héroïne de la deuxième partie est mieux." Apr 08, 2024 06:48PM

Helen DeWitt
“It’s not against Lottery regulations to lose, obviously - somebody’s got to - but it’s against the Rules to be seen to lose. It’s against the Rules to be seen to win. It’s not just that you break the Rules by sitting there. It’s that you put everyone else in the position of ostentatious Rulebreakers, manoeuvred into flashing their luck just by walking to work.”
Helen DeWitt, Your Name Here

Frances Hodgson Burnett
“The mere fact of her sufferings and adventures made her a priceless possession.”
Frances Hodgson Burnett

Donald Barthelme
“Immature citizens in several sizes were massed before a large factorylike structure where advanced techniques transformed them into true-thinking right-acting members of the three social classes, lower, middle, and upper middle.”
Donald Barthelme

James Joyce
“The cheers died away in the soft grey air. He was alone. He was happy and free; but he would not be anyway proud with Father Dolan. He would be very quiet and obedient: and he wished that he could do something kind for him to show him that he was not proud.”
James Joyce, A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man

Benjamin Hale
“All the world's a zoo, and all the men and women merely animals.”
Benjamin Hale, The Evolution of Bruno Littlemore
