The hate list is a list between Valerie and her boyfriend, it contains the names of certain students who have wronged the two and those who wrong anyone in general. Most students try to avoid Valerie the best they can; keeping her from sitting at their tables during lunch, avoiding her in the halls, not wanting to work on group projects with her, or be near her at all in general. The Hate List changes many people’s lives forever, but it is mainly focused on how it changes the life of Valerie. Nick Levil is out of the picture, he started the school shooting and killed himself during it as well, because he injured Valerie, his girlfriend. Throughout the book, Valerie’s life changes in ways she might’ve never expected it, old relationships fail, and wither away, while new ones slowly form through tough tempering, and forging these relationships with a few students she decided to work with after she joined the student council.
In my opinion, Hate List is a very well written book, bringing in a lot of feelings into the book. If I had to rate Hate List on a scale of 1-10, I would give it a 20. It covers well on what drama in teenage life is like, it covers things that normal teenagers could experience. The Hate List is based around a school shooting that left Valerie injured along with others, and many people died as well. It also covers how Valerie feels during the time of healing and how the relationship with her mother is slowly failing, as well as her therapy sessions and how those change how she feels everything else. For example, Jessica wanted Valerie to join the student council and help for a council, the idea they came up with was a memorial for all the students who died during the school shooting. The conflict that arose was Valerie stated that Nick was as well a victim of the shooting and a victim of his actions. During the beginning, the other students didn’t want to work with Valerie, to begin with, but Jessica didn’t give up and kept pressuring Valerie to continue with the work, despite how the others felt about her working with them.

Overall, I think the Hate List is a good book, and I believe anyone else who reads it would think so too. The book is written very well, and a lot of thought was put into it during the making. Hate List is a very astounding book overall, and I don’t think that it could be any better. If you would like a book that gives you an idea into the life of a teenager and a book that sums up the overall life of a high school student, I would recommend reading Hate List. ...more "
